Your hymen, the membrane of your virginity, is blocking the tampon. When you try to insert the tampon, you are stretching the hymen. If you continue, you will break the hymen and will not longer be a virgin. It's not worth it! Stay intact and be proud of it.

So every young lady that breaks her own hymen and doesn't know it is now no longer a virgin?
Talk about NONSENSICAL.
Your statements are making many young ladies think that they could possibly no longer be a virgin.
If you did some research, this would not be up for debate.
If the hymen is torn thru some activity, that's just what it says, that's all.
In order to take a girls virginity, there has to be intercourse with a real man who has a real penis.
Please know what you are talking about before you post here.

What bbfeet9 writes is obviously nonsensical. This is the theory that a girl is a virgin no matter what happens until a penis enters her vagina. Under that theory, a girl who masturbates with a plastic penis (a dildo) or some other object, or with her fingers, and ruptures her hymen doing is, will still be a virgin. That can't be. You are a virgin if, and only if, your hymen is intact with the normal small opening.
I do not believe in sex before marriage. Sex is an incredibly wonderful thing. A gift given, to be experienced between husband and wife. A TAMPON HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT! And yes, I am screaming, because how dare anyone scare a girl that is trying to deal with the awful pain and hassle that comes to us all once a month with the thought that she is no longer a virgin because she make break her hymen inserting a piece of cotton! Talk to your gynecologist. I found this thread because I too, am all of a sudden experiencing pain. Believe me....I am no virgin....it probably has nothing to do with your hymen....I lost mine 16 years ago on my wedding night!
I am really glad that you posted this because it's difficult enough to get help with a health problem without being told stuff like this! I mean yes everyone is entitled to their opinion but virginity has nothing to do with hymens and everything to do with intercourse and coitus. I do understand and respect cultural differences but an intact hymen is not always the surest way to tell if one is a virgin anyway. Sometimes hymens also are so naturally pliable that they don't break, even after sex, so is someone a virgin after having sex if the hymen is still whole? Just asking out of curiosity mostly!

Your hymen can be worn down throughout your life without even having sex. Riding bikes/ horses can do this, as well as many other physical activities. Also, breaking your hymen isn't always associated with losing your virginity. Having sex stretches your hymen and creates tears in it (just like riding a bike, etc.), but again, those are wrong who say that breaking your hymen means you aren't a virgin anymore. In fact, you may have to have sex more than once for your hymen to be completely gone.
