I have been to a few doctors, one of which specializes in knee pain, and not one of them have been able to determine what is wrong with my left knee. I've had MRI's and X-rays that have shown no serious abnormalities that should be causing this pain. I've had it since i was about 11 and i am 16 now. Could it have something to do with growing? It hurts to jump off it, put alot of weight on it, or moving things to the side with it such as a soccer ball. It does pop alittle bit but the doctor said based on my MRIs that its just a common genetic thing that should cause no pain. The pain seems to peak after i've taken a break from physical activity and tried to get going again such as if i sit down after a tough soccer practice and attempt to get up and sprint again. Does anyone out there have any idea what could possibly be wrong?

Hi honey! There is a LOT of controversy about so called "Growing Pains" some - as do I - think that some people can actually have the beginning signs of Arthritis! Myself and my 2 boys have a genetic problem - in the Arthritis family! BUT the Xray should have noticed that! What I would like is for you to get a blood test, ask your parents to get you a blood test for Rheumatoid Arthritis - just to rule it out! It could also be just the structure of your knee! But after 5 years I TRULY think you still shouldn't be in so much pain! Ask your parents to have your doctor make an appointment with a Rheumatologist OK? And in the mean time, massage your knee everytime you have pain, and take Ibuprofen for pain! Please let me know how you get on OK? Good luck and health honey!

I think what Bambi has said is a good guide for what you need to do. I had suffered from similar pain actually when I was younger and it turned out that it was just a strange growing bone. It went away after I got older but I at least was able to confirm it with a doctor. It's a good idea to talk to a doctor about it, okay?
