my uvella is long and thin at the bottom somtimes at night I gag alittle is surgery to shorten the answer because i can feel it on the back of my tounge my doctor said it was ok but it irritating to me Is the surgery dangerous will it cause my throat to swell help :'(

Their is a two week recovery process involved with uvulaectomy. Managing the pain will be an important part. The uvula will continue to hurt it is a integral muscle flap that is used every time you swallow. There are numbing lolly pops and gargles that can be used to lessen the pain here.
I would think that if they are going to preform a uvulectomy they would do a tonsillectomy at the same time to avoid complication.
The problem here is that if your doctor does not deem it medically necessary your insurance company may not pay for it.
It has been my limited experience that Uluvaetecomies are only done with Moderate-Severe Sleep Apnea patients or someone with an infection in that area (usually sinus).
At this point it's a matter of convenience for you to have the surgery.
