I wouldn't panic too much alhtough getting it checked is probably wise. I had two full periods and sore breast etc one two years and one three years after menopause and it was nothing...just the body having its final fling I suppose. I was 54 and 57 respectively. Went through all the scans etc and they thought I might have a cyst and it tutrned out just to be the normal one the body makes before your period. I think the occasional light period through menopause is quite common and much more likely explaination than anything serious....but better to be safe than sorry! Anya

Join the club. I just turned 60 and have not had a period in seven years. Although I did have a one day spotting that lasted only a day. I have been on a estrogen patch for five years prior to taking oral estrogen. Now I have starting bleeding and for a week and a half have had a brown discharge. Saw the doctor and she did a biopsy. Two days later I really began to bleed like the "old days." She thinks I have ovulated but am waiting for test results. Hope for the best. %-)

Did you find out anything. I have been on HRT for 7 years also and am 60 and the last two months have had heavy periods. Doctor did a vaginal ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy that both were negative. So, I know it is not cancer or cysts etc. I wonder if maybe taking HRT for so long may be the cause.

I am 55 and haven't had a period for 6 yrs and the last few weeks I have been bleeding lightly and sometimes brownish. Very worried and have made a doctor's appt. However I have had problems in the past when in my late teens I developed endometriosis and lumps on my ovaries. Plus my family has a high rate of cancer, my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and have lost several cousins to cancer in their 40s. Before the bleeding started I was having pressure in my pelvis and nausea, now I am having pain in my legs. Anyone else with similar problems? My appt is not for 3 wks and any positive feedback would be helpful.

o.O Guess it's good to know I'm not alone. Just had spotting today. Periods finsihed long ago, I am 61. Of course my Dr's office is closed because it is Wedensday afternoon so I can't even call until tomorrow. The internet has lots of information - but can also give you so much that it increases your anxiety over such a thing. Hope to see my Dr. soon.

I am 48 and have not had a period in 3 years. I recently had some spotting for a day or so. The doctor ordered an ultrasound. I also had a biopsy done in the office. Fragments of polyps were found. I later had a hysteroscopy done in the office to remove the polyp. There was only 1. Now, good as new!

I am a 54 year old woman who has not had a period in 7 years. Yesterday I was having bad stomach cramps and then today I am having some light spotting. I thought I had already been through menopause but never had it proven officially by a blood test but now, I don't know if I have or not.

I am 50 years old, and I too have not had a period in three years. I had an episode of spotting (one day). Had an ultrasound which showed a thickening of my endometrial lining (due to not sloughing off during period so it builds up) and also having a polyp. I am scheduled for a D&C next week. Since the ultrasound, I have an one day of spotting the same day of the month as the previoius episode. I work in Pathology and know this is a common problem and the majortiy of these type problems are benign ones. It is always good to check with your physician as I do know polyps can cause spotting which they do need to be removed either way. Please reply on how you are doing.

Hello,

I am 57 and had not had a period for 2 years ...that is until last November 2010. I had a "slight" period that lasted about two days (very light). Now (April 2011) I am spotting...again very light and pinkish in color. Its so light that I only notice it after wiping (urinating). Should I be concerned? Is this just another continuation of menopause?

I too am having bleeding. I just turned 60 and haven't had my period in almost 2 years. I will be calling my doctor in the morning. Better safe than sorry, as there is cancer in my family. My sister had cancer of the uterus and my mom died of ovarian cancer at the age 36.

Had a pap test done yesterday, my bleeding is worse since. I feels like a period. The doctors is sending me for an ultrasound and maybe biopsy if the OBGYN finds anything suspicious.  But my GP thinks it might be a last hoorah before the end, it can happen even 2 years after last period.

Sometimes he said it is brought on by "forcing while lifting a heavy piece or furniture" so I am waiting to see.  When I get my ultrasound will post again...
