Hi - I have been going out with a woman who has Multiple Sclerosis. She's great, and had a wonderful sense of humour and a positive life outlook, despite her illness. I am really worried though! She has been telling me that she gets bad MS attacks with little warning sometimes. What do you do when this happens? How are they treated? I'd be grateful for some information. I'd hate to do the wrong thing during such an attack!

You sound like a lovely, caring person! Good for you! MS attacks sometimes require immediate care. The inflammation of brain and spinal chord can get pretty bad at times, and corticosteroids have to be given to the patient immediately. If she feels bad, the best thing you can do for your girlfriend is most probably to drive her to her doctor or to the ER!
