After having a cold for several weaks I developed a sharp, stabbing, unbearable pain on my right side around the breast area yesterday. (of course it is weekend!). It hurts to raise my arm, breath, bend, cough etc.
If I were running a temperature I would go to the ER but I am not, leaving me to believe it is plueresy. I have a doctor appt for tomorrow.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to relieve some of my agony until I can get to the doctor?
Any home remedies?
I'm taking Tylenol and putting a heating pad around the area to relax the muscles. It does help some but not much.
Thanks

Pleurisy, also called pleuritis, is an inflammation of the pleura, which is the moist, double-layered membrane that surrounds the lungs and lines the rib cage. The condition can make breathing extremely painful. Sometimes it is associated with another condition called pleural effusion, where excess fluid fills the area between the membrane's layers.
Viral infection is probably the most common cause of pleurisy. Pleurisy is only as serious as the underlying disease causing it. If you this condition, you may already be undergoing treatment for the underlying disease; if not, seek medical attention immediately.

No I am not being treated for my cold as of yet. I know this is the reason for the pleurisy that is why I have a doctor's appt tomorrow.
Thanks anyway.
Does anyone have any ideas to what may help make me more comfortable until I see the doc and can get medicine?

I just home from the Dr., she said I have pleuorsy, she did not give me anything for it, she just said it will go away by itself. I've have it for about 3 weeks, a heating pad helped me.
Hope you feel better :-)
