Don't believe the hype here. My wife had a total hysterectomy due to uterine cancer and family history (mom with ovarian ca). My wife cannot take hormones due to risk (sarcoma) return. So all this said, she cannot have penetration and her desire for sex is gone. It has been 3 years since Divinci surgery and 2.5 years since end of chemo. It's very hard on her but it is also very hard on me. No sex when once we were very active. It sucks! Be very careful on what choices you make going forward. I the best of luck...

how bad was your endometriosis? My Doctor says that mine is the most severe that someone can be diagnosed with, and he said either I do Lupron and buy time, or do the hysterectomy now, but there is not much else that can be done. My abdominal cavity is filled with adhesions, and everything is fused together and makes it unbearable to deal with. I enjoy sex with my husband, but have no drive to do it because of the pain. Do you know of any alternatives?

For Leanne, I had a total hysterectomy and truthfully me and my boyfriend instantly noticed a difference. My orgasms no where close to be strong as they were before the hysterectomy, my libido was very low, and my muscle mass deteriorated. I used to have multiple orgasms and I had a strong sex drive, but now I hardly think about sex and when I engage I'm lucky if I get 1 orgasm. If they remove your ovaries, your libido will diminish because you will have no testosterone. Hormone pills are only made up of estrogen and progesterine. I don't know why the pills does not include testosterone because not only does it improve the libido but it also helps with muscle mass. I lost my muscle mass. The cervix is what produces the muscle action (the grabbing, the va-va-boom). If you remove your cervix and ovaries, your sex life will diminish. Your partner will really have to really stimulate you to get the juices flowing but you will never have the multiple orgasms again! Men do notice when your orgasms have decreased and also when it grab like it use too?" There is a difference and if I could do it all over again, I would keep my ovaries and my cervix.

Dear Guest,
There is some hope after a hysterectomy even though your sex drive and your orgasms are not what they used to be. For you and your partner to get complete satisfication, it will take some work, some time, and some practice on your husband's part and some work on your part. Stimulating the clitoris WILL get the juices flowing and also will help with the libido. I had a complete hystercomy 14 years ago, and I felt the same way you did until I met my husband 4 years ago. I also felt very dry so I went out and bought the KY jelly but my husband said he could get my juices flowing and I didn't need KY jelly. Yeah right! Honestly, ONCE I LET MY GUARD DOWN and let him stimulate me, the juices started flowing and so did the excitement! I did not need the KY jelly and I did have a few orgasms. Once my juices were flowing it was my turn to please him and well. ... let's just say once he entered into me, he was totally satisfied! KEGAL excercises really do help the muscles contract so try your best to do kegals at least 3 times a day. I started doing these and noticed a huge difference. I don't always have a strong sex drive but my husband does so everytime he asks, I accomodate him because I know he's going to please me. In turn, my arousal is back. So my advice for you is: 1) Do KEGALS 3 x a day (this is very important), 2) let your guard down (relax), 3) let him stimulate you to get your juices flowing, and 4) then give it to him whenever he ask becuase the more you give it the more you and he will want it. Your sex drive will increase and so will your sex life.

Thank you for insight. Did you have your cervix removed? I am worried about having my cervix removed, but looking forward to feeling better.

I have several fibroids and one very large one. My gynocologist said that ablation would not work for the excessive bleeding and recommended a surgeon for a hysterectomy. I am 51 and had a tubal when I was 24 so I won't have to deal with being sad about not getting pregnant. My hormone levels show no signs of menopause coming on soon.
I have suffered from a what I call decreased sexual response for about 15 years. Mentally I want and enjoy sex but I just don't see to have the arousal feelings, getting hot or excited, responsive to touch, etc. I still have sex to keep my guy happy and it feels good inside but I just don't feel turned on ( maybe I am crazy or not able to explain it correctly).
I have all the symptoms of low thyroid and thought that was what causing my problem but all the testing has come back normal.
I have been reading a lot of forums and it really does sound like a roll of the dice of how you will feel or how your sex life will be affected.
I am curious though. I am wondering if women who have some sexual issues before, tend to be the ones who end up getting the improvement and the ones who have no issues unfortunately have the problems?
I say it really depends on your mental state and getting the optimal levels for you personally. Hard to find a doctor who doesn't have a one size fits all attitude.

I had hysterectomy 4/11/14 and I am already pretty certain of all the changes I didn't want to have happen have happened. Low drive, nothing feels the same etc my question is how do you get your doctor to listen? My Doctor seems to think it will all be fine and he is not going to get me testosterone cream. He did give me an estrogen patch for the hot flashes and night sweats. I still am weepy and I realize my surgery was veru recent but I cant live like an emotional woman in public. My greatest sadness is the loss of who I was sexually and how things were for me and my HB they were fabulous! He feels he may need HRT to help his sex drive as well, but it was all good. WHat type of doctor should I look for?

I had mine on 3/17/14 and just had my 6 week check-up and was told everything was good to go and I will see you in a year for a mammogram. No, how are you doing with the estradiol? Any hot flashes? Anything. My surgeon was a young female to boot. I am came home and tried to have sex and it was a disaster. I was so dry and it felt like I was getting rug burn, We had to stop.Tried the lube and again it was a disaster. Too slippery and hurt like crazy.
I made an appointment with my GP for an issue with my nose that I have had since surgery (from the oxygen?cannula). I told her about my issues and she recommend that I see the gynecologist that recommended me for surgery. She is around my age and has been through a hysterectomy herself. I have done great as far as no hot flashes or night sweats and I feel awesome and young again mentally ( better than I can ever remember) but the sex thing has got me worried. I am making an appointment with her tomorrow so hopefully things will get better.
. An endocrinologist can check all your hormones, so you could check into that or look for a gynecologist that specializes in menopause perhaps. Good luck. I have read that this can be a trial and effort kind of thing to find what works.

My relationship of 3yrs is about over because of the lack of sex between the two of us and I seriously need help. I can't afford surgery so is there anything I can buy to help to reboost my sex drive?? Please let me know...

I also had a total hysterectomy about 4 years ago and I have lost all sex drive and it is very painful even with using creams I can not use HR pills because I have other health problems. I don't feel the doctors were honest with me when I asked about how my sex life would be after surgery. I have only had sex twice since surgery and it was very painful. I feel bad for my husband he has been very patient but sometimes I feel like telling him to go on with his life. I love him so much and we get along great except for this sex problem. I wish I would have never had a hysterectomy because I feel like I am already dead inside anyway. I feel like I am waiting for him to leave me because of all this. I wish I could do something about it but I cant. The depression I feel from it is a death sentence. Best of Luck to anyone considering a Hysterectomy!
