Hi all. I’m just wondering if anybody here had a total abdominal hysterectomy?? I will probably have one in 2-3 weeks and I would really like to hear your experiences as I’m really scared... I would also like to learn more about the procedure, so any input would be appreciated... Thanks...

Well, a hysterectomy is a surgical procedure whereby the uterus is removed. It is the most common non-obstetrical procedure of women in the US. Now, total abdominal hysterectomy procedure has been developed by doctors Edouard Servy and Robert Kaufmann, M.D. as an alternative to laproscopic, vaginal and traditional abdominal hysterectomies. The benefits are smaller scar, less post-operative meds, shorter hospitalization and better visualization and vaginal cuff colpoplexy than vaginal hysterectomies. I had one 2 year ago and had no trouble... I mean, I had pain, and many other problems but nothing unusual for the operation... Anyway, after 7-8 weeks after the operation I really got better – very close to normal... Anyway, good luck to you - I'm sure you'll do fine.

Hi, i just had my Total abdominal Hysterectomy onthe 17th.
First i thought I was pregnant, then, it was known to us it was a molar gregnancy, and then, we had to do this. 2 weeks, and i am still moving slow. Feeling better, on percocet still. laying down, i feel fine, but standing, it hurts. I have taken 4 weeks off, and may have to for a few more weeks from work, since i have to sit straight in a chair all day.
The first day, i was in so much in pain, i told the nurse, i was at a 7 or 8 in pain... and that night, they made me stand, by the next moring, they told me i will be walking. i was like, "um.. i could not even walk to the sink... " But the nurse helped me, i was soooo slow...because it hurt...and by the end of the day, i had walked 3 times..with morphine, and very slowly.
I had surgery on a monday, and they sent me home on Wed. I was hurting..everytime i had to move.
laying still, i am fine, but sore on the incision area, still..I am trying to take it easy, hard with 3 kids at home...
hope this helps... take care...
