I have been taking lortabs during my pregnancy , and I know women who have taken oxycontin during pregnancy , and I would like to know what the difference is between taking lortab and oxycontin and how it affects the baby????

Both of them are narcotics which are VERY harmful to your baby. You need to talk with a physician about whatever problems your having due to you having to have the pills. until you see a physician i recommend you quit taking them immediatly

oxycontin has a much higher pregnancy category than lortabs do. oxycontin, in general, can be extremely bad for you even when not pregnant. after all, it's pretty heroin in pill form. that is why it is so hard to get a prescription unless you have a chronic illness. many doctors will recommend you to stay away from oxycontin pregnant or not.

lortabs, in moderation and taken only as directed are FAIRLY safe during pregnancy. taking them all the time, such as an addict would do will effect the fetus.

however, many doctors prescribe lortabs and darvocet during pregnant.
my ob actually gave me a prescription for both because i suffer from migraines and my preventative medication is actually more dangerous for the baby than the lortabs.

people automatically associate lortabs with narcotic, which is true, and associate a narcotic always being extremely dangerous for your baby.

if anyone is ever concerned about taking lortabs during pregnancy. have faith your doctor that they know what they are talking about. if you don't have faith, you can always contact another doctor to get their opinion. if you feel completely uncomfortable, don't take them. but i assure you, there are many pregnant women that take lortabs during pregnancy only when needed and ONLY as prescribed and their babies turn out just fine.

I've heard some pretty stupid things in my day, but from recommending someone to see there doctor quickly then telling them to stop there medication immediately. Is asinine and stupid in one go! Shut your pie hole and leave it up to the doctor whether she should stop her medication! :!:

my husband works for Purdue Pharma, which manufactures Oxycontin. Oxycontin is a pregnancy category B drug, which, if taken in moderation, is safe for your unborn child. HOWEVER, it becomes a pregnancy category D drug if taken for a prolonged amount of time and/or during the 3rd trimester. It is NOT heroin in pill form, as someone earlier posted.

Obviously your husband is not a phamacist or compoundist or you/he would know that oxycontin IS synthesized heroin as is any drug made from poppy plant. Don't try to believe that your husband or the company he works for is not in it for the money. Please correctly educate yourself and your husband about opium alkaloids which is manufactured from the poppy plant. What is heroin made from? Hello! POPPY PLANT! Hence the need for our government controlling the fields in not just Afganistan, but in other places the opium poppy is grown. Please, Please, Please, educate yourself better and don't make uneducated comments, even if you heard it from your husband.
