I was involved in a head-on collision on Aug. 23, 2006 and part of the engine came into the front seat and broke 6 bones in my foot. I had surgery to repair them and another surgery to get the pins removed. I have been out of the cast for nearly a week (after 11 weeks total) and my foot is still very swollen and it causes extreme pain to walk on it. The pain I expected but the swelling won't allow me to put on a shoe or anything so that I can go back to work. Also, I have only about 40% of the flexibility I had before. Are these things normal and what can I do to reduce the swelling? I have another appointment with my doctor but I am looking for other opinions.

Hi Osutmb: Welcome to the broken foot club! The threads I have below are for those of us with Lisfranc fractures in the foot which it sounds like you might have. Anyhow, follow these threads for a lot of information. The first thread is full of information and the second thread is because the first thread got too full. I would really appreciate it if you would do all of your Replys on the 2nd thread.
I'm 11 months post Lisfranc injury of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th metatarsal.
Some weblinks state that only 1 out of 55,000 persons present with a lisfranc injury so we're a rare breed which is why I'm trying to get the few of us out there to share what we know so that we can all learn together.
