Best thing to do is to cut your use by half every two days. You will still feel like c**p but it takes you off the meds in a more tolerable way. You need to speak to your doc before and make sure someone is watching you come off these drugs. It can kill you to go cold turkey. It is horrible coming off of pain meds but you have to go through it. People who get onto Suboxone or Methadone end up living on it as well. The thing that keeps me from becoming addicted was that after I had my surgery I went through withdrawals to get off of them and I was sick for weeks. Now, I do everything I can not to take them and when I do I look back on that month of hell and it reminds me why abusing them is NOT worth the high. Go get weed but stay off the pills! The one thing that helped me through was the Trazodone to help me sleep at night. I gave my pills to a friend I could trust and had them give me my meds and correct dosages. I did not allow myself near them. Now that I am married I give my husband all of my medications. He makes sure I don't take too much and he helps me make good decisions when it comes to medications.

These words are merely " A Note in a Bottle" tossed into the sea. 6 months later as I walk these words, reading all of these posts, I see yours, which is, so like mine, the same. Even though I took, 1 to 3 a day, I find the withdrawal, somewhat irritating, to say, "None the least". But I do say with a wry smile, "I Count the Days" He said "4 days without, for me today" cryptic I am sure. Walking away. Peace and I hope you won.

I am in the same boat as you are. I get prescribed 90 a month that's 3 a day. However, lately at the beginning of my script I have been taking 4-5 a day, thinking "Oh, I have a lot left"...BAD IDEA. Because now I am going to be 4 days without & I hate the WD feelings. I did this once before a long time ago. I do take them for sever lower back arthritis pain legally. However, I know I am taking more for the high...and I am pissed at myself for doing this. I did cut back my dose these last few days by breaking them in half & only taking a half twice a day....trying to wean myself a little so I will only be 4 days without & maybe the WD symptoms will be better. So I too suggest people......only take the dose you are prescribed to take!!!!!!!

Sorry, but the advice about tramadol is the WORST advice I've ever heard, and I know from experience. I tried to kick an oxycodone habit by switching to supposedly non-addictive tramadol and ended up severely, completely addicted to tramadol for 7 years!!! From the Ultram (brand name for tramadol) manufacturer's website: "ULTRAM contains tramadol, a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic. Although its mode of action is not completely unders
tood, from animal tests, at least two complementary mechanisms appear applicable: binding of parent and M1 metabolite to μ
-opioid receptors..."
When I went through rehab, the docs and therapists all told me that they see LOTS of tramadol addiction due to people using it thinking it is not an opiate. WRONG.

To awnser your original question withdrawals begin 6to12 hours after last use. The reason that you are not feeling withdrawal symptoms is because you are not taking them everyday. Dont be fooled taking 30 to 50 mg can and will cause you to have withdrawals the key is taking a few days here and there.  I have gone through withdrawals and detox 3 different times the first time i was taking 200-300mg of 10mg morco and before my 3rd detox i was taking 80to100mg. the withdrawal was all but the same. hope that helps

Wow, your story brought tears to my eyes. The great news is, you have a dr who wans to taper you instead of cold turkey you. Which means you get to be honest with him about any withdrawal symptoms you have! He will gladly prescribe you clonodine and such to help with withdrawal and your taper/quitting of opiates and benozos should be rather painless. :) Hang in there.

Thank you for your comment. It described me to a T. I hope you were able to fully kick this nasty devil habit. I was little over 30 hours into withdrawal when I caved and gota couple.i took 1 1/2 pill of percocet and am going to try my hardest not to take any tomorrow and see how the following day goes (monday) I also work full time where I have to dress up and look nice so it scares me to withdrawal at work

Hi "Guest"
You take 40 to 60 / 10/500 a day???? How are you still alive? But I understand how it goes... I started with 3 - 10/325 vicodin a day after a major surgery, now I'm up to 6 but they are doing nothing for my pain. Dr. says no more per day so I am trying to just quit. I wish I could take 10 a day (and not for any buzz because I don't feel one taking 6) I hope you can cut down because that is a lot of meds. Take Care....

I started taking hydrocodone 10/325 about 5 years ago. I was taking ten a day toward the end, and I realized I was in deep trouble. I went to a detox center Dec 1, 2015. I couldn't have stopped on my own. It was the most horrible week of my life. I never want to go through it again. If you can quit now without suffering from withdrawals, I strongly suggest you do so. I don't want to see another hydrocodone again!
