I'm a 23 year old male and often when I have the urge to urinate, it takes a long time to actually happen. There is no pain, blood or any of the usual signs of a UTI but it feels like the urine is there ready to go but just doesn't want to come out. Is it an anxiety problem or am I just worrying too much?

Hi Jonathan,
It could be a bit of an anxiety problem, does it matter where you are when this happens? At work/school/home?
You don't really have any symptoms. You could check with a urologist.
Good luck.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the reply. It is an intermittent thing. Often it's at home but on the odd occasion happens in public toilets which is why I thought it might be an anxiety issue.
I think I just need peace of mind more than anything as its just so irritating. I can stand or sit for five minutes before bed with the urge to go but nothing happens and I end up waking up an hour later needing to go again.

It still might be a UTI. A urine test can answer that. You don't have to have any real symptoms.

Hi Jonathan, at ur age you should not be waiting that long to urinate. Check with a physician, it could be a number of issues, some more significant that others. Young males should not be having very slow streams, this is not normal. Yes, it could be an infection, or something more significant. There are various flow tests that urologists can perform to tell if anything else is up. Good Luck.
