Hello, I'm very confused at the moment and so please someone help! I have been recently trying to find out exactly where the Hymen is and have conflicting answers. I have been told that the Hymen is actually the opening to the vagina, the skin around it where the penis is first entered and I have also been told that it is further, deep in your vagina where you would have to use your fingers, or a penis to reach it and break it. Please tell me, where is the hymen?

Many thanks

The hymen is located right at the opening of your vagina and is usually seen by just spreading your legs apart.

Whoever made the last post is 100% completely incorrect. The hymen is a thin membrane which is found INSIDE the vagina and, barring unbelievable flexibility and a high-powered telescope, is not visible to the eye. PERIOD. The bleeding some women experience when losing their virginity is a result of the penis, inside the vagina, penetrating this membrane. The hymen can also be ruptured with tampons, or through masturbation or strenuous physical exertion.

No, in fact, the hymen is outside of the vagina. Look it up. Here is one of the many citations from resources on the hymen.

"Many people are under the impression that the hymen is located within the vagina. It is not. It’s a mucous membrane that is part of the vulva, the external genital organs. It’s located outside the vagina."

You really are ignorant!!!!!

The hymen (when present) covers the entrance to the vagina.

You've obviously no knowledge of anatomy at all, so why are you posting here in answer to a question of which you have absolutely no idea!

the hymen is the thick skin at the opening of the vagina. the person who said it is in deep is wrong.

Actually it is fairly thin, which is why it tears and bleeds temporarily when having intercourse and such...

But it IS at the entrance to the vagina, not deep inside.

It's at the opening of your vagina the first person who said you can see it with a mirror is right. Also on yahoo search type in Hymen and it'll show you the four different types of hymens =] hope this helps. There isn't a hymen deep inside YES it hurts when it goes deep but thats not cause the hymen its cause nothings been that deep and now something has so it hurts. Some women it hurts (me) some women it doesn't.

The hymen can be broken incredibly easily, so easy infact riding a bicycle has been known to break it.

During intercourse the hymen is broken, but it MIGHT hurt and it MIGHT bleed. Not everyone is the same. For me it was kinda small and so I didnt want it to get in the way of me and my boyfriend when the time came so I found out that even using a tampon can break it. So I bought the biggest kind(to make sure the job got done) for my periods and the first time it hurt but like a tiny pain, less worse than cramps, and the bleeding mixed in with my menstruation so I didnt have to worry about that. Now my hymen is broken and I will be ready to "do it" with my boyfriend worry, and pain, free. :-D

The hymen is at the vaginal opening. When you spread the vaginal lips, you WILL see it if it's still intact.

They are usually thin, but can be thick depending on the woman.

Here is a picture that has various types of hymens (drawn) to help you determine if you see yours or not.

There is no such thing as a hymen, not even half of all girls bleed the first time they have sex. The hymen is a myth created to control womens sexuality. All vaginas look different, thats why some girls can't find their "hymen". It's impossible to tell if a girl had sex or not.

Help me to kill this myth!
