Two acetaminophen (with or without codeine) and two ibuprophen will take the edge off the pain. regluar or extra strength....I go for the extra ALWAYS.  :)
It takes a few days for these things to go away but that combo of pain relievers works and helps get me through.

I cut them off...However, that doesn't mean I'm encouraging anybody else to do the same.  I've done no research whatsoever on the subject and do not claim to be a doctor of any kind.  I have no idea what they are or what causes them.  I've never had any serious side effects or infection or anything from doing it, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.  Good luck with your swollen taste buds.

It's nothing to be frightened over.  These can be caused by stress, acidic foods, smoke, and spicy foods.  The treatment is easy, just coat your tongue with yogurt.  Yogurt helps to bring the tongue's pH balance back to normal.

The very best way to do is to have a specialist check up. I also those for the past 4 months, I lost the taste for a weeks. What I did is go to the doctor and have a serious check up.

I was glad to see I wasn't the only person dealing with this, though it is frustrating that there isn't an easy answer to the problem.  It seems the technical term for "lie bumps" is transient lingual papillitis, but that didn't help me figure out how to cure them.  Based on what I'd read here and elsewhere I thought at first I might be able to wait them out and they'd go away by themselves in a few days, but I was wrong.  After 3 weeks mine are FINALLY clearing up.  The worst time was at night when my mouth would dry out slightly and it felt like burning needles were poking my tongue.  At one point the tip of my tongue - where there had been so many bumps - felt like it had been scalded, lost some sensation (which came back), and flavors of food tasted weird.  I tried pinching off the worst offending bumps, using Orajel to numb the pain (sorta), eating yogurt and drinking more milk, and gargling with salt water (helpful).  But what worked best for me was to rinse 2-3 times a day with Listerine.  It still took a few days and the first few times it hurt like heck, but I could tell immediately that it was having an effect.  I haven't been able to identify a trigger, so I'm not sure how to prevent another flare up.  But I know if it happens again I will immediately use Listerine religiously and try my best not to scrape my tongue on my teeth.  Just pressing the tip of my tongue firmly to the roof of my mouth seemed to temporarily ease the discomfort without scraping the bumps and doing more damage.

I found this page after googling the issue, as it currently afflicts me.  I'm almost 30 and have been getting these since adolescence; most recently from Halloween.  I find that eating too much salty things to be the general cause.  I've also found that eating too much chocolate and/or peanuts can cause resurgency of dormant cold sores.  It sucks that too much of the best foods affect your health, but hey -- that's Life.  moderation is key!

11-14-11..... Hello everyone. I get the little white tongue bumps too from time to time.....usually on the tip of my tongue and boy do they hurt!  Have considered snipping them off like so many have suggested but I have found a better solution. I take L-Lysine pills....any drug store sells them.....1000 mg. tablets......I take 6 pills when I find a bump and 6 more 12 hours later. Most bumps disappear by then but if not I take 6 more pills at the 24 hour point and that always does the trick. My mom used to get cold sores on her lips and she took the L-Lysine for them so I decided to try it on my tongue bumps. Good luck and health to all!

I get them too and just pull them off.  Problem over.  If it's a big one, I put a dab of Anbesol on it afterwards.  I'm finding that these things might be caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency  If you keep getting them, check with your doc.

Aha!  Cinnamon!  I got a free box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and ate a bunch of it...it was yummy, but the next day I had a white bump on the tip of my tongue.  I've had them before and my best guess it it's the cinnamon.   I've had it about four days and I'm done with it, so I got some nail clippers, soaked the business end in alcohol, and snipped off the bud.  It didn't hurt at all and didn't bleed either.  I got some Listerine and let it sit in my mouth for about a minute and will continue to rinse my mouth today to help prevent any infection from the snipping.  Feels better already!! Hooray!
