Don't worry about them. I get them sometimes. They're caused when your taste buds get inflammed which happens when they're overstimulated i.e. too much salty, sugary, sour, or spicy food. That's one reason why people say that too much of one type of food is bad. They'll go away after a few days. DO NOT PULL THEM OFF. YOU ARE JUST CAUSING YOURSELF EXTRA PAIN. The taste buds in a way grow back - they're like skin cells, constantly replacing each other. The taste buds will eventually PAINLESSLY peel themselves off and a new layer will take its place. This can take anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks. Just calm down, don't poke or prod them, and lay off the salty, sour, etc. foods for a little while. If they really hurt, I've found that sucking on mild but not too strong starlight mints, those little round swirly peppermint or spearmint mints in bowls in restaurants, makes them feel better. It gives a cooling sensation. Just relax and stop bugging them. I promise you that if you do that, they will eventually stop hurting.

mine was on the tip of my tongue.
what you'll need:
- nail clipper
- water
- hydrogen peroxide
- mouth wash
- ice cube
1.) cut the damn thing off
2.) dip tongue in hydrogen peroxide/ water solution (let it sizzle for about 2-3 min)
3.) rinse mouth with mouth wash a couple of times
4.) suck on ice cube afterwards to numb the pain (tip of tongue on ice cube)
WORKS FOR SURE. sucking on ice cube as I'm typing this.

It may sound crazy, but the pulling the taste bud off works really great and it feels so much better. Just use sterile clippers for tweezers and there is no harm. It hurts less to grab just that single infected taste bud and pull it off than to rub it on my teeth by accident for any period of time.

Swollen taste buds are caused by to much msg. Msg is used to open taste buds to make them more receptive to foods taste. I get them when I eat to much fast food n salty things Chinese food is also a killer. I used to cut them off and no problem but the last time I cut it off it was to large n I now have a scar on my tongue

I've been getting these for as long as can I remember, and I'm a firm believer in the "**** it grab the clippers and cut that thing off" method. My food still tastes the same after all the potential damage to my tongue. It just doesn't hurt like a mofo when I eat. Seems worth it to me.

This is most likely to be oral thrush... which is a fungal infection of the mouth. Best thing to do is rinse with Listerine or any other mouth wash and it will clear up in a few days

Alum!!!!! you can find it at the grocery store in the spice section. Use a que tip to apply about 3 to 4 times durring the day or everytime you get the urge to cut it off) they will be gone by end of day 2. You need to dry them out and stop the bacteria. Alum is a pickeling agent and has been recomended for this issue for generations.

it is ok to put hydrogen peroxide in your mouth. Read the lable. Just swish it around and spit it out. DO NOT SWALLOW. It says on lable can be used like a mouth wash for this reason. It is also suppose to help whiten teeth a little. When mine flare up i do this, listerine [not at same time :) ]and if they still bother me i pull them off. I also use kanka or tanac to numb.
