Hello! My sister has a son who is six years old. He has juvenile onset myopia. He is the only one in our family with such condition. This seems strange to me since I know myopia is usually inherited from parents. My sister will take him tomorrow to get his frist glasses and he is not so happy about it. We told him it was only temporarily and that he would stop wearing them as soon as his vision is improved. Will his juvenile onset myopia get worse?

Hello! Since he is only six you can expect his myopia gets worse in the next few years during his growth. Most commonly, myopia will stabilize when the growth process has been completed but it is hard to predict what could or couldn't happen. It is important he wears his glasses and he shouldn't feel uncomfortable because of his condition. Talk to him and try to explain as much as you can. Be honest with him and you will be surprised by his positive reactions.
