I'd like to share my experience here, because this thread has been the only thing keeping me sane these past few days!
About 3 weeks ago I had unprotected sex with and on/off partner (I know, how stupid). Anyways, immediately after I felt something was off down there. I brushed it off thinking it was just really darn good sex, so I was thinking it must've been the "good" type of soreness. Then, 3-4 day's later I started to get super itchy and had an abnormal amount of discharge that eventually turned milky-like--I immediately knew it was a yeast infection (I've had it before). So, I bought myself the 3-day Monistat. It cured my yeast infection, but not the itching. In fact, the itching just got worse.
After about a week since I had sex (2 days after I finished Monistat), I began feeling a sting in vagina area. I decided to inspect my vagina with a little mirror... and there I saw a little cut in between the lower opening part of my vagina. I've had cuts before, so I did not freak out. I went about my day and thought it would heal on it's own.
Two days later, the stinging was still present. My curiosity led me to inspect my vagina again (just to be sure), and BOOM! Two open sores! My heart dropped, and my life flashed before my eyes. I ran to get on my laptop and I started googling all my symptoms... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS. Google results showed herpes all over and nothing else. At this point, I felt so disappointed in myself... how could I be so irresponsible? I immediately felt dirty, and started thinking about what my life would be like with and STD. I knew, then, it was time to call my doctor and make an appointment.
Today, 3 weeks since I had sex, I went to see my gyno and she immediately told me it's herpes. I actually have a few more open sores since the first 2 by the way... just great. I couldn't hold back the tears and I started ballin. I asked her if she's certain, and she said yes... but, that only the test results could confirm. She prescribed me Valacyclovir to start taking to help clear the sores and to prevent any new ones. I'll follow up with my test results to confirm my diagnosis.
I know this story isn't the most hopeful, but it has led me to do research on HSV1 and HSV2 and I've found that it's a lot more common than I thought. Basically, almost everyone has it. Some, don't even know it! HSV1 is oral herpes, but they can also lead to sores in the genital area. HSV2 is genital herpes. Also, this basically confirms that all my friends who get "cold sores" after being sick... yea, that's herpes! But, none of us knew! Also, you don't always get an outbreak if you do have HSV 1 or 2... some don't get any at all for a while, or they'll get 1 or 2 outbreaks their whole life. There are definitely certain things that can trigger an outbreak.
