I just found out that my 98 year old grandfather has been using a glass butt plug to help him have a bowl movement sence 1958. Well his broke and he wants me to find him a new one. Has anyone ever heard of this or what I can do to help him? I have to admit it is very embarassing asking for help at the local pharmacy. They told me to go to the Porn Store. He is 98 and very set in his ways.

Yes, from about 60 years ago and earlier, they used devices called rectal dilators (aka: but plug) to help with bowl movements. Particularly for constipation relief. These were widely used in the days BEFORE laxatives were even available.

But..just stop into a pharmacy, take the pharmacist aside and explain your story. He will probably try to distract you with a more modern remedy, which your grandfather will probably refuse. Once their minds are made up, that's it for sure. Go to a place like Spencers, we have one in our mall. It is not a porn shop per say, but they do have a lot of sexual devices, and i think i did see a butt plug in there before.

Here's some advice in the mean time....Slip him some prune juice or other fiber foods so he's be unsuspecting. I'm smiling as I write this, and I'm learning from everyone. I've never heard of this plug, but now I know. don't be embarrased. It's true...you'll never have to see the pharmacy people again and the pharmacist will probably be more likely to know what you're talking about. Don't forget to help grandpa out in the mean time be making sure he has enough, water, juices and fiber. He'll surely need help in this area, since he is used to it.

I can offer the fact that glass plugs are available. I use one every day. And it does help with bowel movements, since if you're like me, I live a sedentary lifestyle, parked in front of my computer most hours of the day (that's my job). You need to ask your grandfather what the shape of the plug is or maybe you can see the broken pieces? Glass cleans up very easily, generally mine cleans up well with antibacterial soap and warm water, and it's good to go, again. I use the Prisms Devi Glass plug. You're grandfather may or may not be able to insert it, since the egg-shape of the business end of the plug is 2 inches in diameter. But I can tell you this, if your grandfather has been using a plug since 1958...55 years...he's not going to change his habits. He also probably derives anal pleasure from the plug—but that's another story. Amazon carries a whole range of glass plugs and he can see pictures of them online.
