My grandfather is 63 years old and he complained to me last time we saw each other of urinating problems. He said that he has been feeling some abdominal pain for several days now, and that he urinated more often than usual. Could we be talking of kidney/bladder infection? He is stubborn when it comes to hospitals and doctors, I do not know how to convince him to go see a doctor.

You do not have to convince him anything. Pain will. He most probably have some sort of kidney/bladder infection, there is even possibility of kidney stones. Ask him if there was blood in his urine. That is the most certain symptom of some sort of illness in his urinary tract. And there is the possibility, though very small one, that he has kidney cancer, if there was blood. That will surely make him see a doctor.
