had a thyroidectomy in the middle 90s, and was put on synthroid. Due to insurance changes I haven't been able to get meds for almost 2yrs now. Is my health in danger ?

Hello guest,

to answer it shortly - yes, your health could be in danger, especially if you had a complete thyroidectomy and are not taking any medications that contain thyroid hormone T4, like Synthroid. Thyroid hormones control almost every process in your body, mainly your metabolism. They also have a big impact on heart and liver health, not to mention mood, skin and hair.

There are now available generic forms of Synthroid that contain the same hormone and there are even coupons and discounts when you buy them without insurance. It's actually one of the cheaper medications (around $5), but you first need blood work done to determine what dosage do you need,

Wish you all the best,

Nicole
