The 4-day diet by Dr. Ian seems to be the only thing that works for me. I'm a vegetarian so this works well for veggies or meat eaters. Thanks for all the input above with the different things to try!

To make sure you’re getting enough nutrients, incorporate pumpkin seeds, beans, almonds, soy products, and fish into diet. Encourage faster elimination of food by eating more fiber in the form of whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables. You must stay adequately hydrated.

This 'advert' has really annoyed me! People with Hypothyroidism should NOT be eating Soy products as they contain goitrogens (substances that interfere with thryoid function). Both my mother and I are hypo (she 125mcg, me 75mcg). She once accidently took soy vitamin supplements as she had heard they were helpful with menopause and they really effected her thyroid level until she went to the doctors and he advised her she shouldn't be having any soy!!!

This article is pretty helpful but my best advice is if you are unsure about any foods to ask your doctor. I have found that a diet of mainly fish, salad, soups has really helped me to loose weight in the past.

OmG, this is the WORST advice!!!! You are so right. Whoever wrote that is TRYING to kill people with Hypothyroidism. You are NOT supposed to have a lot of whole grains, beans, MORE FIBER= BAD for you if you have hypothyroidism. And as I read on another source, to back you up- "Soy is an enemy" in the hypothyroidism diet. It lowers thyroid function even further. Ugh, people like that. -.-

Also, will be trying your soup, salad and fish-like diet :P I'm pretty good with those, lol. Or, should be more so. Is salmon a bad idea, though? Smoked salmon (lox type) is my favorite.

hi.

i've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism at the age of 7. according to my doctors, i'm the youngest to ever have been diagnosed hypothyroid. i'm 22 now and my weight has been ever fluctuating. when i was little, i was an overweight child. the only reason i was thin during my teens was because i had to wear a brace for my scholiosis, and it served as a waist training corset. from then on i was a steady 130 lbs at 5'2".

a few years later when i was turning 18, my weight started to pile on and it didn't stop until i hit 225lbs. i've been excercising and trying to cut many things out of my diet, but now i'm stuck at 215 and it won't go.

is there anything i should try?

Hello everyone, I was born with Hypo-Thyroid. I have been taking medications my whole life, so I know a few tricks of this weight gain and weight loss ordeal. Throughout my teenage years I was a steady 110-115, @ 5'4. I got Pregnant when I was 18, and it began. I gained 100lbs, so I was at 210 by the end of it all. The reason being, my not so smart Gyno took me off the medication I was taking completely. So my weight sky rocketed. its true it is way harder to lose weight for us with this disease, but I stuck to what my thyroid doctor said and its coming off little by little. No big results but then again no weight loss is instant. There are certain foods you should not eat. Look it up on the web or ask your doctor. I was told no greens whatsoever. So I take a vitamin pill and go jogging one mile every other day switched off with biking so I dont get bored. Dont get depressed, I know its hard but getting upset about doesnt help your situations. I am hear to help and listen to any of you.

Unfortuantely there is only ONE way to lose weight with hypothyroidism. Most of you will not like what I have to say but it is the truth. I too have saught out the EASY way to lose weight with such a debilitating disease only to find the weight double time and time again. After 7 years of trying every thyroid medication on earth, my doctor prescribed me Armour Thyroid. Now, I am taking 9 grain, which is the equivalent to 540 mcg's of synthroid a day. In 2005, 7 years after my diagnosis i began walking ever day until i could work up to a jog then a run. I was 215lbs and 5'1". I was FAT! I also started being more health conscious about what I was eating and started consuming more water. In 4 months I dropped 85lbs. since then, I have gained and lost, gained and lost, gained and lost......

2 years ago I started lifting weights along with my regular cardio and was in the best shape of my life, until I got sick with sinusitis. I gained 30lbs back during the 2 months I was sick and have been working the last 10 months to get it off and am now sick with sinusitis again and have gained 10 more lbs back. I am no where near the 215 I use to be, I am now 160, but without exercise, proper eating habits and consuming lots of water, you will not lose weight at all.

I too have a very busy lifestyle, mother, wife, 9-5 m-f job, night school, yet I still get up at 4am every morning to run and lift. I encourage you all to take charge of your life, stop making excuses and take care of #1 YOU! if you neglect yourself, all of the stuff you find the time for like school, work, family, it will mean nothing in the long run if you don't take care of yourself NOW!!!!!

Hi...

I have had hypothyroidism for over 20yrs. When I was first diagnosed, I gained 17lbs in 2weeks! Had my blood drawn and got the proper medication....however, not all Throid meds work the same. Levothyroxine is generic for Levoxyl and my insurance changed my Levoxyl to the generic which you are taking. Now, I am a mess. I see my doctor tomorrow and I am going to tell her I need to be put on LEVOXYL again, not the generic. My weight fluculates 8-10 lbs, I lose it, I gain it. Now, my fingers and feet turn white, with tingling atttached. I have never been this bad in my life!!! It drives my husband up a wall!!! Just watch your calorie intate and excersise. Stay away from all the goodies...potatoe chips, sweets, bread. Good luck...hope to here from you soon.

Thank you for the menu- do you have the name of the book you used for the choices of food? I would like to have a few more options to choose from.
Thank you

I have been treating my hypothyroid naturally through food. I see a nutritionist who has been awesome. Also, read and get the DVDs from Andrea Beaman she cured her goiter through nutrition. I noticed many of the web sites out there give bad information.
