Since my thyroid went completely out of whack after being put on the back burner I thought I was going to die. I have found so many conflicting diet plans. Some say you can't eat strawberries for example and others add it in to the mix of what berrries you can eat. For me I know that if I eat chocoate too much coffee with palm sugar and strawberries i find my neck and jaw start to hurt. Also , I read that eating the low carbs veggies ie cabbage, carrots. well I read cabbage is a no no and for me even if it is cooked same symptoms. I went off my tree while i was on eltroxin and my doctor said maybe it was not a large enough dose. Sorry people no synthetic product for me if i have to I will ask about Armour and see if that will help but right now It has been difficult to follow a diet and use a natural product without soy products in it because that is another food that will mess you up.

I have been hypothryroid for 18 years and take both T4 and T3. I am vegetarian. The above diet would therefore not work for me. I have to reduce my diet to 800 calories a day to loose a pound. I am on the equivalent of 200mcg and still have dry skin, dry nails, thinning hair, fatigue, as well as the constant battle with my weight. Do not take a vitamin supplement at the same time as your thyroid medication as this inhibits the uptake of the thyroxine. I am constantly at odds with my GP as they lose blood samples, then say its too high, reduce the dose and then say its too low. Please would everyone sign the epetition on the government website before September to get more research done into T3. Medics seem to think they can dish out the pills and that is that. I do not think anyone has done sufficient research into hypothyroidism as is shown by the comments on this forum.

This diet is no good for a vegetarian. I have been hypothyroid for 18 years and battling with weight and symtoms. I take both T4 and T3 at the equivalent of 200mcg. Please sign the epetition on the government website to ask for more research into T3. Medics are ignorant about hypothryoidism and insufficient work has been done into this subject, as is demonistrated by the comments on this forum.

I've had hypothyroidism for about 3 years now, and weight loss is definitely harder now. Initially when it first hit me I gained 15 pounds, luckily I have lost most of it with diet and exercise and thus I have done A LOT OF RESEARCH on this matter because I did not want to be fat and unhealthy.

Unfortunately, YOU MUST EXERCISE. WIthout exercise you just won't see the results because your metabolism is slower and will continue to slow down. I understand the time constraint as I am an attorney and I work 60+ hours a week, but unfortunately there is no other way. Try to work up to working 1 or 2 times a week and gradually increase, once you start going it will get easier (trust me, I used to avoid the gym like a plague, now if i don't go, i feel like a fat disgusting pig)

My work out:-- note it helps to change up the routine every 2 weeks.

-25 min jogging

- 15 min lunges with 5 pounds weights

-10 min rowing or plyometrics

-10 min crunches and pushups

-5 min stretching

In order to lose weight and maintain my weight: DIET:

- Start a high fiber diet (30g/day), I also take psyllium husk supplements (metamucil) several times a day 4 hours after i take levothyroxine

- take CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) it helps with body tone and composition for people with Hypothyroidism

-cut out ALL soda - that means diet too!

- no sugar-free foods (raw sugar, stevia, turbindo sugar is OK) the artificial stuff like splenda and aspartame is really bad for the metobolism for hypo people.

-increase water intake (at least 9 glasses a day)

-switch to whole wheat grains and brown rice,

- cut out as much processed and refined sugars( only eat whole wheat baked goods as much as possible)

- try to eat less sodium (thyroid disorders tend to cause bloating)

- no fast food

all of this may take some time to do, but I promise you that this diet will help. Sadly hypothyroidism has cursed you with the necessity to always watch your diet for the rest of your life unless you want to be fat. Good luck!

There are several foods on this "diet plan" that people with hypothyroidism should NOT eat as it decreases the thyroid production, making hypothyroidism worse.

Myabe you do or don't have hypothyroidism diagnosis. Assuming you since you're posting on this sight, I will tell you that Since my diagnosis in October 2010, i have gained 40 pounds. i eat a very healthy diet made up of approximately 70% fresh fruits and veggies, I jog approximately 10 miles each week, walk about 5 to 10, and cycle about 25 miles per week. Do I eat naughty things? Of course i treat myselfd to the occasional small bowl of ice cream with about a cup of fresh fruit, nuts, and 1/2 cup ice cream. My list can stretch for miles. I completely understand the science of calories in and calories out, but this method is not working. I am maintaining a total weight increase of 80 pounds by doing these weekly activities and VERY carefully watching what I eat. I don't even eat salad dressing on my salads. The science is no longer working since my thyroid took a dive! I feel like I am fighting a losing battle and I'm depressed. I hate the way I look and worse I HATE the way i feel. I hurt from head to toe and have strange health related things happening constantly.

Ironically, I have gone through spells where I can't exercise and have fallen off the wagon, I don't gain a pound, biut all the hard work doesn't move it either. I really feel like I can't win!
