Hi, I've been hypo for about 10 years now. I have tried unlimited amounts of diets and live a very active life. The only time I got to loose about 10 lbs. in a month I was eating mostly protein foods for the 3 meals and snacked mid morning, mid afternoon and 3 hrs before bed with 1/2 grape fruit. Now, I am considering to start treatment with a chiropractor who specializes on autoimmune disease like Hashimotos.
Hope this helps.

i'm sorry but your mothers diet has a few errors.
Your not supposed to eat eggs, have strawberries every so often, no peaches, no broccoli, rarely eat beef, avoid foods high in starch, and so on.
My doctor is helping me find a good diet right for me and I've been loosing the weight between my diet and in combination with my medicine and exercising.

you’re trying to avoid starch, that means potatoes and corn are also on the no-no list. The diet for hypothyroid should not include raw foods such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, mustard greens, kale, spinach, peaches, pears, strawberries, radishes and millet as these fruits, veggies, greens and grains are thought to increase your chances of developing goiter

there is no permenant cure for hypothyroidism in allopathy , better you should take homoeopathy as it works like wonder and when your thyroid levels get normalised, automatically you will lose weight with routine diet also.

How about your exercise level and plan? I am 34 and have been steadily gaining since diagnosis back in 2009. I have gained over 50 lbs (used to be an avid runner and in tip top shape) despite cutting out refinded sugar, white flour, and soy. What gives? SOOOO frustrated! Even worse, my boyfriend doesn't understand.

I hear the same c**p from my dr and my med has been increased 6 times since I was diagnosed. I lost 40lbs immediately following being put on levoxythyrine. My weight, along with dose has increased. I drink water, no more soda and make time for exercise and eat a much better diet than I did prior to diagnoses. I have re-gained the 40 lbs and than some. I am so frustrated and feel all my hard work was useless. I'd probably weight like 300lbs if I didn't keep at it.

I am on .75mcg of levothyroxine and have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism for 9 years. It is especially hard for me to lose weight now after having a baby. Please any suggestions on a good diet plan, I have tried 4 hour body, no carbs, shake diets to almost everything out there. I know that excersize it the key essential to weight loss but cannot seem to fit into my busy life style of work and a 2 year old!

I have been taken Levothyroxine 75mcg, i go on a diet but i don't stay on one. I trying to find a diet that I can follow, i have had Hypothyriodism for 5 years. My Doctor told me recently I could not have red meat I wondered why, it is full of something called Cystine that blocks your T3 or T4 from putting out something it needs. I have to look up more information on this.

Hi, i also have hypo for about 22 years and i am going to let in a secret i have been doing research on. I know having hypo and consuming medication is hard because you still are gaining weight but i imagine you try a lot of diet. Buy dieting is not going to help you loose wight because what you are doing is cutting down the calories and that is doing you more harm than good. I am going to give you a little secret that i have learned myself you can not cut down your calories intake you are going to set your body into a hoarding position and instead of loosing weight you are going to gain weight. This is what you are going to do first weight yourself first know exactly how much you are weighting after that take that number and divided by 2.2 that is to know your weight in kilos after that the result multiply it by 25 this number represent the calories you are supposed to consume by pounds and the you subtract 200 because you have thyroid and that is the amount of calories you need to consume for the day. Don't be frighten by the number because then you have to divide by 6 meals. for example a person that is 170lbs divided by 2.2=77.2 multiply by 25=1931 calories-200 for thyroid= 1731 divided between 6 even meals=288 calories small meals and believe me you will not feel tired, hungry, and you will start seeing the pounds starting to shed away every week check you weight and readjust you calculation in the beginning you will see a little amount lost but eventually you will loose it. And if you can do some 10 to 15 min. exercise you would loose more but if you can not do exerciser you will see it go down slowly. Don't give up you can also do like i do i track the calories in take i might eat 3 small snacks of low calories and leave the big calories for breakfast and lunch but try to consume the calories that your body need. Another secret avoid soy food check every label don't consume it it will do you more harm than good. There certain food that you should try not consume in big quantities and these are wheat and other grains like rye, barley, millet, and oats they ten to slow down the metabolize. Cruciferous vegetables like raw broccoli, cabbage, turnips, brussels sprout and kale. Also avoid coffee special a few hours after taking the pills the caffeine will interact with the bill. I was doing that for years and every time my blood work used to be high so i did a little bit of changes and drink it with water like we are supposed to drink it in an empty stomach and it started to bring it in control. I hope this helpful tips help you as it has helped me and is still helping me. Don't be afraid to ask i love doing research and helping other with the same condition that i have had since i was 18 years old. Its been 22 years of struggle because it is easy to put up the weight but very difficult to loose it.

I am 29 and I was diagnosed with hypothyroid when I was 22. Surprisingly, my doctor didn't prescribe any medicines for me, neither did my gynac or any of the other endocrinologists I visited in the subsequent years. They recommended that I exercise everyday for 40 minutes, go for morning walks that are moderate (not too stressful) and maintain a balance diet (avoid cauliflower, cabbage, soy), especially focus on the amount of salt (iodine) in your body as LESS iodine INCREASES thyroid levels - so take adequate (not excessive) amount of salt.
Every month now, I check my TSH and T3 and T4 and they are perfectly within the normal range. I do yoga in the morning as its less stressful, calms the emotional nature of our condition, steadies the mind, balances the body, increases muscle tone, strengthens the bones and improves flexibility. Evening, I do some abs or free style exercises.
The key to maintaining your thyroid level is EXERCISE AND DIET. there is no easy way out, no shortcuts, no formulas, no magic pills, no surgeries to help you maintain the weight. You have to work on your body and your diet - lifelong.
