All of these posts remind me of what I've gone through for the past 8 years. You may want to save yourself & your children the same near-decade of misery. Try testing for Lyme, Bartonella, and Babeosis infections. These are highly controvesial -- but just get tested & do your research to be sure you're getting appropriate testing from the right labs.

Docs know very little about this. So, you can't always trust their opinion on it (trust me, I'm in med school myself).

Lyme infection is the biggest epidemic in the world - global warming is causing it to spread even further. Don't ignore it -- your children deserve to know why they feel so bad!!

Best of luck!!!

i took accutane over a year ago, and i stopped taking it becuase i felt so nauseated all the time.

i finally went in to get tested (becuase the nausea has not gone away), and i have a swollen spleen...

i'm going in for more tests

but i guess it could be from accutane, since there are others who have had the same experience!

Hi, I used accutane for roughly six months. My side effects were not pleasant at all. After stopping in January 2009 I have been experiencing many differenet side effects. I have had issues with my bowel movements, accompanied with a little stomach pain. My night vision is worse. I have had a rash come and go around my eyes that I treat with Elidel. I recently had tonsillitis. My strep test came back negative, I had fever, I had ulcers on my throat, and very swollen lymph nodes. I noticed the first posting and sounds very similar to some of my issues.

Massive amounts of vitamin C have been the only thing to get rid of my symptoms (the more you are sick the more your body can handle). Ive found the powdered version sold at Vitamin Shoppe is most economical.

My daughter has been fatique since january. had her tested for mono 2 times nothing. 3 time positive. she has been so tired, her spleen is enlarged and has had problems breathing at night when she sleeps. She is 14 years old and has been out of school 30 days and now the dr wrote her out of school to be home bound. Anyone experienced these problems with breathing at night?

I Personally Do, And I Have It Myself.
I Don't Get Enough Sleep At Night Cause I Can't Breath Very Good.

My daughter was diagnosed with mono and a B12 deficiency this March 2010. The first testing at the doctors office came out negative. 3 weeks later we went to hospital because my daughter was having breathing problems and belly pain. The blood work done at the hospital showed positive for mono. Swollen glands, sore throat, nasal swelling, fatigue, belly pain and breathing problems are part of mono. Although she is over the worst of the fatigue, she is still having some periods of fatigue, belly pain on and off, and once and awhile some breathing issues. Apparently it takes 6 months to 1-2 years for the body to get back to a somewhat normal state.

I am 22 years old in college. I started feeling a sore throat and flu like symptoms a week ago. After one full week my symptoms just progressed. When I eventually got to a fever of 104.7 and an unbearable sore throat (very swollen lymph nodes) my father took me to emergency care and the doctor there took flu and strep throat tests which both came out negative. He concluded that I have mono and took me out of school for 5 days until my next check up.
I came online to get some information on mono, the thing that caught my attention in this discussion is that I am almost finishing my second month of Accutane! My acne was severe so I finally decided to go on Accutane but after reading all these posts.. if mono is a side affect of accutane. Then I'm calling my doctor tomorrow and I am getting off of accutane. Mono is the worst pain ever, I don't even know when it will end, there's no medicine for it and I am missing a whole week of school which really big pain for a college student. I have very swollen lymph nodes (my tonsils) they have white/gray/brown covering on it, it hurts to swallow so even though I am hungry I refuse to eat anything solid most of the time which doesn't make my immune system any better. My fever shoots up to 104 and stays in the 100-104 range all the time even with 3 ibuprofens (600mg, imagine the damage on my liver with this and Accutane combined), I'm tired and it's hard to breath. All of this is terrible and knowing that it could be related to Accutane just upsets me so much more!

I took Accutane for 5 months about 5 years back and after that I was getting lots of swellings all around the body (hand, heels, knee, lips, throat, etc...). First I went to the doctor with this complaint, they thought it was an allergies and so I saw an allergiest (few different allergiest) and got all the test done but nothing came back. I started to write everything I eat, drink and even the combination of foods but no luck! Now recently, after 5 years I discovered that it is not an allergy and anytime I do hard work (such as working out, work on my car where I put pressure on my hand) I get the swellings usually on my hand and my legs but not limited to only those body parts. I noticed that putting an impact on my hand, leg gets those swelling back so I had stop working out for few months and stop applying pressure on my hands and legs as much as I use too and didn't get the swelling back since I had stopped working out. I even tried working out for few days and saw the swelling comeback (I worked out prior to being on Accutane and this never happened). I truely believe that it had a huge impact on my immune system and possible damage to the internal tissues and would suggest people to stay away from Accutane or it's generics. I have been to few emergency visits where I had a swelling on my scrotum (sorry to discuss this but this may help others on the same med) and they did a scan and a ultrasound and told me that I had more blood flow in that area and my skin was swellon but after doing many reaserches online and the fact that the medication has side affect of birth makes me think that it is certainly a tissue damanaged due to the strong medication. I will make an appointment with the doctor to get my organs and tissues checked and will post more info. as available. Hope this helps! Stay away from this prescription if you can!
