Hi. I have injured my acetabulum - whatever that means. I would like to hear info about acetabular fracture. Do I need a surgery (hip replacement)? What is acetabulum?

Hi. Acetabulum of the pelvis is a part of your hip. Your hip is comprised of head of the femur, acetabulum and ligaments of the hip joint. The head of the femur moves within the socket, or acetabulum. Acetabulum is covered by articular cartilage, for smooth motion of the hip joint. So, acetabular fracture means you have injured your socket. I was diagnosed with traumatic arthritis. I had to have a hip replacement surgery. There are some common problems leading to such procedure, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid and traumatic arthritis, avascular necrosis, benign and malignant bone tumors and Paget`s disease.
