I am 26, male, and sexually inactive. I masturbate once or twice a week. Around two months ago I started noticing that the opening at the end of my penis felt like it was actually open and the inside of it was sticking to my underwear, usually only when I was sitting down. I thought it was an allergic reaction to the new detergent I was using, but after changing back to my old one, about a month later the, for lack of a better word, lips of the opening started to look strange and when I urinated the stream looked much too wide and almost always looked like a "ribbon" instead of the usual "rope". I don't think anything's improved, and now the irritability is so bad and constant that I sometimes have to take off my pants and underwear to feel a little more comfortable.

I know I should see a doctor about this, and I am, but I want to know what I might be dealing with before my appointment.

Your symptoms could be related to a yeast infection or balanitis (an inflammatory condition of the glans and/or foreskin). Your skin might also just be irritated from masturbating. Dry masturbation can cause the skin to become dry and cracked, and using certain lotions, soaps or shampoo as a lubricant can have a similar effect. You should see your doctor, of course, and if a yeast infection is the issue, an antifungal cream can clear it up. You can also prevent further occurrences by using hypoallergenic personal care items and applying a penis health cream (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) after a daily shower.
