I am recovering from my first Band ligation that was exactly 3 days ago in May 2015. My hemorrhoid problem was made more intense after being given Oxycodone after another surgery in March. That drug caused my stools to turn to rocks and caused the inflammation of hemorrhoids and a fissure. When I got to see the Colo-rectal doctor that was recommended (Took 2 weeks to get to see him) he put me on the table that puts your Butt in the air and your head at knee level. He then used a tool that looked like a funnel with a plug in the front to make insertion easier (HA). When he was ready to look around inside, he pulled out the center plug so he could look around. He was then able to turn this "funnel that looked like it had been sawed at an angle. He then twists it around so he can see all of the problems. I was in such intense pain, I was ready to swing at him when he finished, He then told me that I had 1 fissure and 9 Hemorrhoids that needed to be fixed, Gave me two prescriptions that were not covered by Medicare part D and ended costing $100. Also said "see you in two weeks".
Took two days to get the prescription since it had to be compounded from powder to a cream. Used those for 3 days and quit since they both gave me severe anal burning, just like most of the Over the Counter stuff did. Started calling the Doctor and finally got in to see him in a week rather than the two weeks. When he saw me he scheduled me for a Ligation procedure in two days. He said the procedure would be to group the hemorrhoids into 3 bands of 3 each. The procedure involved no anesthesia and took about ten minutes. I think he used a similar type of funnel he used for the diagnosis for the procedure. Same kind of table and told me to breathe deep. In it went and he was telling the nurse and an assistant what was going to be done. For the 3 bands, the funnel had to go in and then come out 3 different times. Again more intense pain. the ride home was 45 minutes of agony.
Thirty minutes after getting home, I had a bowel movement (I had loaded up on fiber before the procedure). After I had finished, I checked the toilet and saw a lone Hemorrhoid in the bottom of the bowl before flushing. Two hours later I had to make another movement and saw two white rings floating on top of a stool. I presumed they might be the bands. Later that night during another movement, I saw another ring at the bottom of the bowl. I had a terrible night and was hardly able to sleep. In the morning after another movement, I saw another ring floating on the surface. I retrieved it, cleaned it and bagged it. the dimensions are 5 mm outer diameter and 2 mm inner diameter.
I sent an "E" note to the doctor asking "if the Hemorrhoids are supposed to fall off after 3 days, why did all of the bands (plus a spare) come out after only about 18 hours.
If the Doctor does not answer, their phone line will be very busy. I'm afraid that he will want to repeat the procedure. If so I'll find a different doctor. And yes, I am still in rectal pain

Today I went back for another treatment. I have noticed no improvement since the first band, but maybe it's the other three hemorrhoids that are causing me so much discomfort when I sit. The doctor wanted to band two of them this time, but I stopped him after the first. The pain and pressure was just as bad as the first time and there would have been no way I could drive home if I banded two of them.
THIS SUCKS!!!

I had it done in the hospital without any sedation and it literally took longer for them to wheel me into the room then the actual procedure took. The doctor was suppose to just band one but ended up doing three as he saw two more small ones. I felt pressure right away and they litterally said you can get dressed and leave right away.
Previously they said I would be fine to drive home but my wife insisted on driving me. Boy was I lucky, about five minutes after leaving the hospital I got clammy and very light headed within about 30 seconds I went from feeling like I needed to have a BM really bad to passing out. Apparently my wife describes it like I had a small seizure. I woke up really confused not knowing what had happened or where I was. I came back around quite quickly but had also apparently lost control of all my muscles because I urinated while I was passed out.
I was absolutely mortified! Back in the hospital they ran all sorts of tests and came to the conclusion that because I already had low blood pressure the procedure must have sent my body into a bit of a shock and dropped my blood pressure to a point where I passed out. I guess because my muscles were concentrating on not having a BM that when I passed out I relaxed all muscles causing me to urinate.
The good news is that once I came through I didn't feel much pressure anymore and would describe the last week as uncomfortable but not painful at all. I started to get some blood streaks in my stool on day 3. It is day 7 now and my BM this afternoon didn't have any blood in it. I haven't notice the bands coming off or the hemorrhoids "falling off". Not sure if that is something to expect or not. I have however noticed that I have very minor prolapse when I have a BM, previously I had three noticeable prolapsing hemorrhoids.
I have also had 3 episodes in the last week where I have felt light headed and a bit clammy so I have been avoiding driving for any more than a half hour or so. Lucky for me I can work from home if I don't have site visits or meetings to attend.
So far I feel like it has been better than I expected (with the exception of passing out and wetting myself - lol) I would highly recommend not to drive yourself home after having bands, while I doubt that my reaction is normal, the thought of what could have happened if I had drove myself home is one that has bothered me quite a bit over the last week. Be safe and get someone to give you a ride home.

I am 8 days post x3 bands for x2 grade 2 and X1 grade 3. I still have throbbing burning pain. I feel sick everytime I get gas or require to have a bm. The hemarroids feels worse than they were before. Ie they are constantly there where before the banding they went back in. Before the banding I would only have pain or discomfort for few hours now it is all day and all night. When is this nightmare going to end!! Mine have not fallen off yet and I feel it isn't going to work, 6 months of hell
