After surgery, my stomach was was very swollen.  Thought it because of the surgery and the 9 inch incision.  My stomach area has never gone down.  I barely can button my jeans.  It has been 3 months since the surgery.  There is alot of pressure underneath and is very painful if you push down on the affected. Has anyone have this happen?

Hi, Lfaust44.

I presume you had a tummy tuck. If not, sorry for the mistake.

There are several possible reasons why your stomach may be bloated after surgery. Here are some common causes:

  1. Postoperative ileus: After surgery, your digestive system may slow down temporarily, leading to a condition called postoperative ileus. This can cause bloating, constipation, and abdominal discomfort. This is typically a temporary condition that resolves within a few days.

  2. Gas buildup: During surgery, air may be introduced into your abdominal cavity, which can lead to bloating and discomfort. This is usually a temporary condition that resolves within a few days.

  3. Constipation: After surgery, pain medications and changes in activity levels can cause constipation, which can lead to bloating and discomfort.

  4. Fluid retention: After surgery, your body may retain fluids, which can lead to bloating and swelling.

It is not uncommon for patients to experience bloating after surgery, particularly if the surgery involved the digestive system or if the patient was under anesthesia for an extended period.
