I permanently lost my hearing completely in one ear after having my tonsils removed at 4 years old (I'm 29 now). My hearing loss was why my mom took me to the doctor, according to her I only had 20% in what is now my good ear, and had 0% in the one I am deaf in now. So I'm not sure if my case was very severe and the damage was done before they were removed, or a result from the surgery. My hearing came back completely in my good ear after the surgery, and it has been fine ever since.

I'm nearly 63. I had tonsillectomy at age 16 and have had tinnitus and progressing hearing loss since. Only a few years ago, a dentist said that jaw over-extension during the procedure was likely the cause. Another suggestion was that the anesthesia was too much for my young, thin body. In fact, I had reacted badly to anesthesia with dangerous drop of BP, stopped breathing and had to be revived. I was a healthy, happy, active teen before this unnecessary procedure. My life changed dramatically with chronic jaw and neck pain, displaced C1, dental malocclusion and severe loud and constant tinnitus.

Hi, I’m 35. Had my tonsillectomy at 21. Following surgery I began hearing a constant whooshing like my pulse. It has been driving me insane, has caused hearing loss. I can diminish the sound to hear when I press on the right side of my neck on my carotid artery. That provides temporary relief. Then it returns twice as loud until it stabilizes once I release it.
If anyone knows how to fix this, I’m open. The doctors pretty much told me they did something which caused turbulent blood flow which is why I hear the wooshing sound. Nothing they can truly do and a surgery to reverse it can likely worsen it.
