I am allergic to all "cycline" antibiotics and need an alternate medication for acne. Tetracycline causes swelling and itching. My acne completely goes away when I take amoxicillin, but as soon as I stop taking it, the acne comes right back. Help?????

It's a very tough situation - you definitely can't keep taking Amoxicillin for a long period of time because it simply will loose all its effectiveness. The other day I read about using Azithromycin as an antibiotic for the treatment of acne. This is not a topical treatment - you take the pill for a few weeks time, but from what I saw it seems to be really effective. I can bet it has some side effects like every medication, but maybe you will handle it better than Tetracycline. Can you talk to your dermatologist about this option?
