Trinica anterior plate used on me. Feb 11, 2015. I am now disabled. Dysphasia is the beginning. Nerve damage is horrible. I'm now disabled had a mylogram & was told it "was fine" got the reports yesterday & read "posterior extension of the 2 lower screws into ventral epidural space w left greater than right. PLEASE get that out of your bodies! I have severe never damage. My nerve roots have decreased filling. I don't know what that means! Zimmer is a multi-billion dollar company. Our docs & hospitals get incentives to use them, so I guess we are all crazy! I'm seeing a new surgeon & I pray he helps me. This is no way to live! I'm also getting an attorney that specializes in medical implants. I'm a single mom, if I don't make it I need my son to be able to go to college. God bless you all...i came across this, I will register once I relax.

Amen. I have a son. God bless everyone on this message board. New myelogram that I don't understand. Surgeon said it was "fine" , after I read it I asked my friend (an R.N) for help b/c my original surgeon left town. This one told me pain management & psychiatrist. But what is "decreased filling of nerve sleeve along with decreased filling of nerve roots in C4/5 with less filling on left side? What is "minimal posterior extension of the lower screws into ventral epidural space, left screw greater than right?" Can't find these answers anywhere. Scheduled an appt w neurosurgeon.
But my friend told me she is tied of hearing me ask questions and she thinks the surgeon is right, I need a psychiatrist
Yes, this board is a blessing. We don't judge. We encourage and share experiences. I wouldn't want anyone to go through what we do.
I thank God for everyday. I thank God for blessing me by leading me hear.
We can't give up. We have to believe that our lives will improve. You are all in my prayers. God holds us and our families in His hands.
Stay positive and know that we are strong, we are survivors.
Peace and Godz love be with you.
RAE....I've registered but I keep showing up as guest. *shrug*

I am a year + a few months post op C2,3,4&5 I have a lump on the back of my neck as well as pain too.Spinal Stenosis. as well as the swallowing difficulty. I believe that the Plate & Screws are right in that area as to where they cause the swallowing Issues. You just have to take a pill just like you were right out of surgery with your neck brace on and it seems to be easier. I have had to do the Heimlick on myself several times due to chocking (lol) true..lol ha ha Hang in there and write everything down for your Spine & Brain Surgeons. They Understand what they did and will help you out.

Luckily I didn't have any swallowing issues after the surgery. It's been about 6 years now. All is well but I did developed restless leg syndrome about 10 days after the surgery nice had to take a prescription for it ever since.

I had C-5, C-6, T-1 surgery in 2010 & within months my whole lumbar spine hurt badly I believe from over using it due to my inability to move my neck for so long during the recovery stage. Wearing the neck collar too long was protocol & now they don't do it that way!! I also have stenosis in the lumbar spine & degenerative disc disorder. Another surgeon said he'd have to fuse the whole lumbar spine all the way to the coccyx (tail bone) I said forget it, I can't rotate my spine to the right now, how will I move after?? He gave me no hope but about 1 & 1/2 yrs. later I lost over 30 lbs & was able to rotate my spine & walk up the stairs again!! I continued to lose up to 87 lbs. Best thing ever!
Now I'm having tightness in neck when I swallow!!

I had the C5-7 with plate four days ago so I am in the early recovery stages. Pain is low except for bruising at the back of my neck and some stiffness. The incision site is ghastly, but it seems to be healing pretty fast. I wasn't given a collar and my instructions from the doc were to take it easy, no lifting more than 10 pounds for at least two weeks and no sudden head movements. That was pretty much it. I was prescribed hydrocodone, a hefty NSAID and a muscle relaxer.

I am having issues with my voice (can't say more than a sentence at low volume before it gives out), swallowing and coughing. I have a lot of discharge in my chest which isn't helped by my pretty significant seasonal allergies. When I cough, it is painful and I regularly feel like my entire upper spine is being adjusted. I feel a large crunch, a shift and an audible, rolling popping sound. Eating is difficult and I have to chew a lot. Anything larger than a blueberry is painful to swallow. I assume these symptoms will subside with time, but the crunching every time I cough or sneeze is a bit disconcerting.

I also find my neck gets tired very fast and I can't seem to find a comfortable sitting position. I have a cervical collar from a few years ago and I was considering using it off and on throughout the day just to take the pressure off. Any ideas?

I was Lucky I had the full collar for 3 months. I #1 would suggest eating softer foods small bites as it does hurt for a few weeks at least. I still have the crunching in my neck sometimes.Make sure you do not have a fever.Your chest may be experiencing some problems after anesthesia .Please check with your Dr asap. I have had problems with my chest every since surgery yet make sure you did not get Pneumonia etc from surgery. My chest does not hurt but is congested in the deepest weirdest of ways still. The Pain and exhaustion of this surgery may have you not wanting to cooperate with speaking. Be still for a few weeks and certainly no lifting over 5 pounds. Let your body heal. But I would call and check with the Dr over the phone. Each Surgeon is different and they have Issues come up with Patients all the time after this surgery. Wishing you the best of luck. Hey I still chock on pills all the time.lol Post Op a Year and 2 months now. Also the crackling occurs as well. I figure bone are the hardware. But I am still alive. Good Luck we are all here for you if you need anything.

Hey Scott . As far as your neck getting tired O I had that happen and was in extreme pain while in the car I did not have my soft collar with me so I say wear the soft collar if it gets like that it helps so much. I wear are bring mine with me now if I am going to be gone more than 2 hours.I say WEAR The COLLAR when you need it. Also please use the Little machine they give you after having surgery to blow into that helps your body get rid of the anesthesia I just slept on my back with the collar I had to wear for 3 months. After the first month I was able to sleep on side. But wear the collar for sleep if you need it. It will not hurt your surgery at all. :)

I had neck surgery last January 2015 still having swallowing and voice issues. Dr has no comment to why. My neck also didn't fuse in 3 levels my neck he said is toggling won't give me pain meds and told me I needed them. Told me to go to other dr.that did my rotator cuff. Then sent me to pain management. They told me he should never sent me to them. They said the dr that did my neck surgery should give me pain meds because he did surgery and he knows there is a problem. Have to have neck surgery again. Now he has to put plate in back of my neck. I have no confidence in this Dr. I'm going to go get 2nd opinion.also did my back worse now than before surgery. Have permanent nerve damage in my left leg.it burns walking just a short distance. I'm in chronic pain all the time. I feel my life is over.loved going to work. Now I can barely do house work.so frustrating. If I could go back I would never have had back surgery. I had no pain in my back before surgery just a pinched nerve that caused pain.now my back bothers me constantly and still have nerve pain foot is numb. Have to wear slip on shoes or I don't tie my shoes because pain gets so bad I feel like my foot is broken. To anyone out there that needs neck or back surgery get a second opinion and for the back put that off as long as you possibly can. I've had many surgeries 2 torn rotator cuff surgeries both shoulders, neck ,back, joints in thumbsome, Carpal tunnel 2 times on left hand, once on right hand, elbow surgery for pinched nerve. My back surgery was the worst and I would never do it again.

How are you doing! I had my 4 th surgery 5/15/14. Been having breathing, choking, every since. They found I have a enlarge thyroid but says this is not causing the problem. Have seen 2 EBT Specialist nd no end results except I am getting worst. Ask my DO doctor if the rods they put in from C3 to T2 is causing problem said No. This has caused me severe problems sleeping, can't lay flat, still can't breathe, choking , constantly clearing throat, mucus build up. Feels like someone has there hands around my throat. Going to see Do in July. Going to ask him to run MRI on Beck and throat.

I had c6 c7 fused 14 yrs ago. I was choking a lot after surgery . My family doctor sent me to a ear nose that doctor who looked down my throat and immediately told me that the surgeon had damaged the nerve going to the right side of my vocal cords and now the right side of my vocal cords were permanently paralyzed. Happens a lot he said. Another surgeon put a silicone implant in my throat to help with the choking . I suffer every day with neck pain. My doctor says I have to live with it.

hey...wondering if the throat issues have cleared for you? Im only 1 month post surgery, having a C 5,6,7 discectomy with fusion, and the throat issues are driving me crazy. Feels like someone is pushing their thumb into the pit of my throat. Makes me feel as if I have to burp all the time, and my gag reflex is on high alert anytime I bend forward. Also, been burping up stomach acid, and I have never had indigestion issues in my life!!

Same fusion and my issues remain the same hard to swallow, feels like someone is choking me or like I have a cold and cannot swallow mucus down. I at times cannot swallow food or vitamins, I gag, they get lodged and I have throw up to get them unstuck, never had acid reflux or any other issues before surgery. I have had many tests and all come back nothing is wrong. My surgery was 3/2013, wish someone could have a breakthrough and let us know.
