Hi, yes.... same issues you are having . Had a Barium swallow which showed where food & pills were getting stuck ... having an endoscopy in 2 weeks to determine exactly what the problem is... my feet are numb but they also have excruciatingly pain when walking ... it's more tolerable when sitting .

I has this surgery in 2004. C5,C6,C7 titanium plate. I have continued to have problems over the past 12 years. The throat pressure, the lump, sore raspy throat, voice is now seriously affected. Have difficulty vocalizing while exhaling. Hope you guys don't get into the cycle that I am in and have been for all these years. Now at age 72, lungs and throat have been irreversibly weakened. Vertebrae above and below the plate have weakened over years due to the presence of the plate. For the past 2 years, I have been assigned to a pain clinic to help deal with the pain using steroids. Its the only way that I can live. The neurosurgeon who performed the surgery has since passed. Prior to this surgery there were a lot of questions that I needed to ask but didn't know to ask. I have learned a lot over the years. There is a lot of information and possible outcomes that need to be explained. The surgeon did not explain well. So. the last 12 years have really sucked as well as the future. Living with some serious pain.

I had this procedure a long time ago and have never met anyone who has had it removed. I have all of the same issues and have a broken screw that will cause another procedure for sure.

I still have fusion probs 6 years after swallowing arthritis and all the stabilizers and broke processes off that retracted into the tapesius muscle. where cut since they suspect ibroke my own neck in two places on the previous fusion(C4-C7). Stay away from doccalamine in any form analgesics containing diphenhydramine is the best i found. Also Lyrica, Amitrepiline, alzam, and sometimes they give me Valium 40mg( this tend to give me head aches. I have a very high liver activity that make treating the pain difficult combined with a high tolarence to pain. I woke up in two of the ops and removed my own incubator. Thank the Lord I am not in a wheel chair which was the outcome given before the op.

I'm going through this now. I had a 2 level fusion of C5-G6 with plating. I have had 3 barium swallows, with todays being a modified one. I could see the food and liquid hitting my hardware first, and then going down my throat. Seems my hardware is protruding out much more then a year ago when it was placed. Will they remove it? How is everyone else handling this? Thanks...

Give it a couple months. The choking goes away. But I still feel the plate 10 months late. I was a singer. Still not able to sing for more than 5 minutes. And if I turn my head sideways while singing it hurts, and I go off key. Neck surgery is a big deal. Will probably take years to get better.

Thank you... I hope things improve for you. Sad we are not prepared for what could happen after surgery by our doctors.

It's been 17 months now, and my hardware is protruding more then ever now.. That's terrible, I hope you can sing again! I can feel the plate all the time too. Can't put my head back, it chokes me. We are not alone I guess. My doctors made me feel like it was all in my head until my tests, now after seeing this thread I know I am not alone in this struggle. I hope we all heal and recover...

It's been four years since my surgery and off and on I get the lump in my throat. Saw the ENT and he blamed the swallowing problem on the titanium plate. But he didn't make any suggestions. I think doctors stick by each other. They don't want to say a doctor messed up.
