IN 2008 I had c5 c6 fused. My doctor has performed 1300 of these operation,so he says. Two years after the fusion i had a sore throat and the left side of my neck hurt. I gargled with tea, nothing .Next day I gargled a lot with salt with iodine before i went to bed. Next morning i was fine. I now take one Icelandic kelp pill every day. Hope this is helpful. John

Well this is my second one in 6 months. The first was fast and speedy. But this second has taken a number on me. I can't swallow without air trying to come up at same time. Can't eat soiled foods. Does anyone know what this is? Doctor's just ignore symptoms as if you are healing and irritated from surgery. So lost???

My ACDF c5-c7 surgery was a year ago,and I have the same issue, had the same exams, the ent Doctor and my surgeon said is a matter of time. Anyway my surgeon requested a neck and , lumbar MRI, ENG ex. That will be done this Jan. 2016. all the issues I have in my throat star 3 months after my surgery and I was told it is normal and will go away with time. Aniyah I went to se ENT spec. Results one said I had left vocal cord paralyzed the second esophagus paralyzed, I don't who is right, the second one prescript omepraxole 20mg twice a day the first two weeks I felt some release of pain, but third week starts stronger pain that I had before I start this prescription, the pain in my surgery area and shoulder blades, tingling, the burning pain in the crow of my pain increased, tingling and like a electric shooting pain in my arms, most the left one. since 9 months ago I have a nerve pulling pain from my left hip and back through my front thigh leg just over my knee. I'm so tired and feeling stupid when I talk to my surgeon and specialist md, about my symptoms and their words sound like is nothing, I feel like my life is....... I can't do things I did before, even do simple house cleaning, cooking, at my work the same, if I knew about all this complications and I should decide to take physical therapy for the rest of my life. Just to let you know as much I read about omepraxole this is not good for our health, and doesn't help to fuse the ACDF, besides another bad side effects, so iLl stop taking this medication Today. I'll see ENT esp, next Monday and my surgeon in two weeks, but please if someone have some advise please let me know, God bless everyone that is going through this problem we are the only one who knows.

My two-part fusion c5-6 6-7 was done in 3/2013, since then I have felt like someone is choking me, and hard to swallow. I have had a esophageal wrap as they thought reflux could be the culprit, Barrium Swallow test, MRI done. Everything comes out as normal, no relief. Please comment if you have or if you do find a cause and a cure. It drives me crazy and makes me very anxious.

I'm having choking sensations constantly and the feeling of someone pushing in on my windpipe, it makes it difficult to take deep breaths and swallow and I speak differently. I'm one week in after Acf c6-7. Please someone tell me this goes away or gets better.

I just had my C5-6 & C6-7 fused yesterday. Throat is sore as expected, but I feel like I have a gas/air bubble down midway down the right side of my spine. I've tried to burp, but not getting a good enough burp yet.

Does anyone else remember feeling this ? Is it normal ?

You should not be taking Advil. Take the prescription medications your doctor gives you. Advil can stunt your healing and cause other major problems.

Hi everyone I pray we all get relief soon. I just had rcent surgery on my neck acervical fusion on c-4 &5, and c-5 & 6 approximately 6 weeks ago. Didnt think much of it, but notice I had this choking feeling around the center of my neck where incision was made... I'm constantly swallowing lumps of spit as if I need to clear my throat. I just thought it was normal or maybe me complaining. After reading all of the replys I'm starting to wonder. At my first 6 weeks check up NS I didn't mention it, but wishing I had. I also have breathing issues. Every time I take a deep breath I feel this intense sharp pain on the left side of my chest, radiating from the back. This brings lots of discomfort. Is there anyone else experiencing this as well. I've yet to sleep in my bed since the first week. I have bee sleeping in a lazy boy chair for 5 weeks because the bed is uncomfortable. Sleeping in chair brings comfort to my neck at the back where the plate and screws are at or St least this is what I believe. I am going to do some research based in all the replys I've read. I do not want further surgery due to fact it took me so long to decide to go with this one, but pain has a way of making you do things you wouldn't ever agreed to. I am going to call my NS and get this looked into. Thanks yo all!!!

Yes, I had it 7 weeks ago it's to be expected. Not the most comfortable feeling at all, I still experience this myself.

My first surgery failed also and I just had a second surgery to replace the old hardware, and to do more fusions. This time the incision is halfway across my neck too. It's because they have to do a lot more work in there the 2nd time to retreive the hardware that broke/moved. It's not your fault it failed. Apparently it can happen for many reasons. It has been 3 weeks now and it's so much worse this time. Feel better!
