I wish I knew the doc you used. I had one done in march and need another done next week. Soooo afraid of the painful procedure!! Wish I could be put out!

I just had a chalazion on the bottom of my right eyelid for 10 months. In this 10 months I did warm compresses and I went to doctor to ask for a medicine but they told me that I don't need to use any antibiotics because it's too small. So I just continued to do warm compresses. But after a month I actually gave up on warm compresses. So I talked to my doctor to remove it and she accepted because it was over 10 months. So I had a surgery and it was horrible. My doctor recommended to do local anesthesia and also she told me that I'm not gonna feel anything but it wasn't like that. The surgery was really painful but 1 hour after the surgery I did not feel any pain. Whatever It's been 5 days after my surgery and it's still there though. It's really small but still I really worry about it.
How long does it take for the swelling to completely go away?
Thanks

My chalazion removal was more painful than the two spine surgeries put together last February. I had 9 shots in my eyelid 6 on top 3 underneath each one was so painful I cried the last one I literally screamed. There wasn't a moment taken to allow for the lidocaine injections to take effect he flipped ut eyelid inside out sliced it drained it then scraped it with a pointed tool then it finally started working and I felt tremendous pressure that was uncomfortable and then the smell of burning flesh from him cauterizing it. I cried the entire way thru it and on into the waiting room wear my friend was waiting continue crying into the elevator and into the parking lot into my car and all the way to rite aid for antibiotics and eye ointment still crying in MacDonald drive thru to my house and then really lost it. I still can't believe that this barbaric procedure is still being done this way. I really hope I never get another one because I will not be doing that again. If it's still problematic he will inject a steroid in it. My eyelid looks better I still have blurry vision and a little itching. I also have a some of my inside eyelid you can see hanging slightly lower where three eyelid rim is. I'm really bothered about my asking if there was a medication that could be used prior to the shots like dentists use to numb the gum but for eyes and he made it seem like this procedure was not very painful he does them to lil kids all the time...i called back later that day because nothing was given to me post op for how to care for my eye after the procedure and spoke to the nurse who was there with me and I said I was really embarrassed over my reaction to the procedure but that is was really that painful and she said "I know " I would rather be told outright that it'll be horribly painful than be bsd and unable to back out. So anyone who says that this procedure isn't that bad I can say this I have had many abscess in my life that required intervention a shot of lidocaine am including then a bunch of squeezing the infection out. The shot hurt way worse so I would tell them to forget about it because it was all gonna hurt anyway and I'd rather have 2 hurts than 3. It went much better without the lidocaine. So yah it hurts hurts so bad that I won't be skiing 8 ut again unless there's a numbing medication given prior to the shots and the shots are given a chance to work. Or I'm sedated.

I had it removed and the only thing that was painful was when they injected the anaesthetic into my eye but other than that there was no pain

Never have that surgery - always get the injection. Doctors are reimbursed at a higher rate for excision and will push it over steroid injections. Excision just gives you an even more beat up looking eyelid!

Hello I also recently got my chalazion removed about 3 weeks ago and I still feel pain or a slight burn where my chalazion was removed. Is that okay? Has anyone experienced that before? My chalazion was on my bottom eyelid and to this day it's still a little swollen. Is this normal? I notice it gets more swollen when I step outside

Hi
I’ve had a lower lid chalazion since around April 2016 and it’s a stubborn mother#%*$£*!
Treatment so far - cutterage procedure performed privately in November last year which only reduced it in size by a fraction. Steroid injection in December, didn't do anything. March 2017 , different consultant reluctant to perform further surgery as sitting close to tear duct so exhausted safer options first. Tried maxitrol ointment for 1 month and Lymecycline tablets for 3 months. The maxitrol seemed to reduce it in size a little towards end of the month, but it was soon back to usual size after stopping ointment. In May I had a second surgery performed privately by a renowned chalazion specialist – hopes were high as they seemed very confident of success. However, I found the procedure especially traumatic the second time – looked/felt like I had a couple rounds with Anthony Joshua (the swelling went down eventually thankfully) and the chalazion did not reduce in size.
I continued with the Lymecycline for a further couple months and recently stopped. In terms of current care, I apply hot compresses sporadically, not every day since I'm not convinced its making any difference – no visible signs of pus ever, it just looks inflamed/swollen. I use blephasol cleaning solution night and day without fail - recommend this to anyone with a past or current chalazion. It helps to encourage oil secretion and keeps the eye clean after makeup is removed.
In terms of how to proceed I’m not so sure. Leave it alone? Apply compresses every day? Go for further surgery? (not likely) Try a steroid injection again? I’m warming more towards steroid since it’s not so evasive and more people have had more luck with this treatment it seems? Any advice very much welcome!! Certainly, I will not be going down the private route again, big mistake, found it exploitative. Stick with the NHS!
Thanks

Hi.
I have 4 Chalazions removed last December on lower eyelid and in the last week I was back for a persistent Chalazion that was not fully removed. This was quite successful, and bruising/swelling went down after about 24 hours. 3 days later i have no symptoms and you would not know I had surgery this recent. Like you I am on Doxycycline (for 3 months) so interested to see how that goes and was recommended Occusoft and Tranquileyes daily. Best of luck if you go back the surgery route. It is not painful other than the initial injection to anaesthetise the eyelid..

I had a thick hardened chalazion on my upper eyelid. It went away on its own but I had to take about 4-6 capsules of sunflower lecithin per day for about 2 months and put compresses several times per day

Hi I currently have scar tissue that I'm really bothered with, how long did you have scar tissue after surgery and how long did it take to go away? I have had my scar tissue for 12 months now. Did your scar tissue last 3 to 4 years?
