Hi all:
I've had my chalazion for since months to date (i.e. October 2016). I was sweeping out the dusty garage after winter without proper eye protection and also working out late at the university when I soon discovered a large stye on my left eyelid. I was treated with eye drops by my GP and then referred to an optometrist who later referred me to an opthamologist. My negligence (as opposed to due diligence) in the beginning of warm compresses The process has been draining (pun intended!). At this point, I've taken three sets of oral antibiotics (Cephalexin 500g), topical ointments (Tobradex), and warm compresses. What was particularly useful in my case (at least the first of three courses of taking them) was Cephalexin. It brought the chalazion to a head at the front of my eye and more than half (even two thirds) of the cyst was extracted. Recently, I visited the opthamologist and was told that my chalazion is too small to operate on. I didn't inquire further, but the doctor's discretion implies that the cosmetic result after surgery would be worse than the tiny chalazion itself. I guess this is the case sometimes. Having lived with it for six months already, I'm still determined to explore other medications and naturopathic remedies. I feel like it is discrete enough that I can live with it, but I still would love to rid my eyelid of this little monster completely!

I honestly don't think it will go away I had a surgery on mine and I was told the same but it's almost a year later from it and it still hasn't gone down...

Hi Guest. Do you have any update about your situation. I had similar condition and waited for about an year to get operated. How the situation is looking at your side now? Is it still enlarged?

I had the lanced procedure on Monday and it was very easy and pain free. They inject in the soft tissue surrounding the chalazion and is only a slight burning sensation from the anesthesia. it is a very simple procedure most of the time and only takes 30 minutes or less from a qualified opthamologists. I had a champion for 9 days and was so happy to get it removed. The recovery is easy!

I went through this surgery and it only took 10 minutes, I didn't feel a thing not even the anesthesia needle, but the next the my eye was all swollen and I got a big black eye, I was worry but after 4 days my eyelids was almost back to normal. After 2 weeks all the swollen went down but I could feel a little ball and my veins were red I was so annoyed, after 6 weeks I went back to my doctor and he said there was still little swollen but no need of another surgery he told me to use the same oilment (neomycin and polymyxin b) that I used after the surgery for 2 weeks 4 times a day and I did, after a week my eyelid had a great improvement and now 8 weeks later its back to what it was before no more annoying ball or veins.

How long did you have your chalazion for? I have recurring ones and the most recent one is now about 2 months old :( will hot compresses still work? If so, did you use wet towels or rice in sock or egg wrapped in cloth for your compresses? Thanks!

My take is I am glad I went ahead and had mine remove
It was uncomfortable for about 3 days
Felt like grit under my lid but with a patch over your eye you don't blink as much also
I remember getting a liquid to squirt every so often
I did not feel any pain during Surgery
Good luck

I had a huge bump on my eyelid and thought it was a stye that would go away. It didn't, so I went to the eye doctor and they said it was a chalazion. They gave me ointment and told me to put it on for 10 days and if it didn't go away they'll have to remove it. 10 days later, it was smaller but still big. So I got it removed. They numb your eye with a shot, but the needle is really small. I had to get 2 numbing shots because mine was so big. It did hurt. After the numbing was in place, they did everything to my eye that they had to do to remove it. They had to flip my eyelid over and to hold it in place they had to put a metal rod to hold up my eyelid. When they put that in, it did hurt. It felt like cardboard was holding your eye open. I didn't feel any pain after that. I couldn't see anything. I had a little black eye that lasted an hour afterwards. A day later, I just have a little bruise on the outside of my eye! My doctor said it'll go away within a couple days. And if it doesn't go away after a week, I have to go back in. But the way it looks now, I won't have to go back in!

I had one removed from upper left eyelid. Local anesthesia, procedure took less than 10 minutes. No pain and had to wear basically an eye patch for 9 hours. Everyone will heal differently but my eyelid looks as it did before, minimal scar tissue and incision is made on the inside of eyelid.

Removing a chalazion without general anesthesia is possible however, it is sometimes better to do it with general because the patient could be stressed out and might move causing and error in the removal process, I'd say if you can afford the general and are very anxious, then have it. My doctor said he would absolutely not have me conscious for the surgery so I was put to sleep and it was no big deal.

Reading all of thelse people having no pain during the removal makes me think they did something wrong with mine. I. FELT. EVERYTHING. it was the worst pain of my life and I screamed bloody murder. I will NEVER have this procedure done again unless I am put to sleep for it.
