Hello semicolon2145073, thank you so much for all your help. I am on my 10th-day pos-op, suffering all the pains you mentioned... I think we all know very little about the intestines and its functioning, It's almost a second brain. Willful. I found a site and learnt about each of its components. This study gave me the knowledge and I could understand all my pains. I'll have to undergo adjuvant chemo and I thank you for the booklet. All the best,
sigmoidectomy29May17.

Beef of any kind

I have just begun to eat the skins on things such as: Potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant.
I have always been able to eat Pizza, go figure, it's my go to food.
When I eat something that I can't tolerate I end up eating mashed potatoes and jello for about 3 days until the pain subsides. My Dr told me that if I am vomiting but not passing gas or having a bowel movement at all then it's an obstruction and if it gets to painful I need to go to the ER. But I have never done this, I just get thru the 12 hours or so of vomiting and put myself on a liquid diet for a couple of days and then proceed to eat the jello and potatoes until I do actually have a bowel movement.
This is my process, now the funny thing is that my dr. seems surprised that I can't tolerate any type of beef or ground turkey, chicken, or pork for that matter. But I am just grateful for my life, so giving up these things are fine. But I do miss Steak and meatballs lol. Not sure if this will help you but I guess it's trail and error and the error sucks big time. I've had times where I ate mushrooms and ended up vomiting all night. I've eaten malt vinegar on my fish and vomited all night. It just depends. The longer since your surgery the better you'll feel. Like I said I can now eat things that I couldn't 2 years ago. Chinese food is still a no no for me, just learned that a couple of weeks ago, but we have to do these little test all the time just to see what may have changed.
Good luck and trust that these forums know much more than the drs.lol when it comes to what you can and can not eat.
