Hello! My son had a tonsillectomy three months ago. His doctor recommended the surgery since they were enlarged and prevented normal air flow in his upper airways. He also had recurrent infections. He recovered fast and well after the surgery. He is not waking up during the night and we are satisfied with the effects. But, yesterday I noticed few drops of blood on his pillow. There was some blood in his moth too. Is it possible he is bleeding three months after tonsillectomy?

Hello! Bleeding usually occurs in 1-3% of patient's after tonsillectomy. It can occur at any time, usually five to ten days after the operation, but it isn't common after three months. Have you checked your son's mouth, his tongue and teeth? Maybe the bleeding isn't connected to tonsillectomy but to possible injury in his mouth. If you can't find the reason the best is to consult you doctor.
