I had a tubal done after my second c-section in 1994. I had no idea that there were any "side affects" and still wouldn't have any idea if a friend hadn't found a web site referring to problems associated with tubals. I had severe periods and then started to have second smaller ones each month. I then had an Oblation done in 2005, that helped a lot and am now pre-menopausal at age 39. But looking over the list of problems that can be part of this syndrome makes me wonder if some of my "everyday" problems could be rooted in this syndrome.

I had a tubal done last yr after the birth of my 2nd child by c-section. I started noticing the changes when I got my first period which was very different than prior to the tubal. the next symptom I noticed was complete loss of sex drive, then mood swings, hot flashes, exhaustion etc. I considered that this could all be because I had 2 kids in 13 months, both by c-section, however I didn't have these symptoms after my 1st child. Also it's been 8 months, and nothing has gotten better. It would seem that there should be some sort of legal recourse, considering the Dr.'s flat out lied when I asked of the possibilities of these types of problems! I am now considering a reversal; I just have to figure out how I will pay for it.

I had my third baby March 2008 and thought that a tubal was a good idea. I had no idea that two years later I would be feeling this way. I have not had such extensive symptoms as some however my periods keep getting heavier and heavier. I was telling myself that it was just the way it went but... something has been nagging on me that it's just not quite right. I had my tubal when at the hospital having my third by C-Section. I didn't start my period for about a year after having her due to constant breast feeding but when my period did start it was very heavy- I put it off that it was due to not having a period for so long... but they stayed heavy and were never before heavy. And cramping started. Feeling sick to my stomach. Severe headaches turning to migraines until I throw up. I pushed that towards stress. My sex drive has gone down but I pushed that to having 3 kids and being busy. And my PMS is as nutty as it was back when I was on bc pills. Aghhh!! moody grouchy angry and sad!!
My husband really looked concerned the other morning when I got up and despite having a tampon in he saw the blood just draining down my legs and he wasn't grossed out (I am lucky blood doesn't make him faint) he was like... um.... are you okay? This morning I woke up and felt the headache and dizzy and disoriented.
I have felt the heart palpitations.
And I have now finally did some research! thank goodness I think I have found something that makes sense. For depression and the moods consistent exercise has seem to help. I have been working out with a good cardio that is 30-60minutes a day. That gives me a natural endorphin boost that helps keep me in high spirits and I follow it with lifting weights. It also helped take all the baby weight off. That is a little tip for some. I know it's hard because this darn thing is so exhausting and painful it makes it hard to do... but it may help some. In May I am going to a new ob gyn (we have moved recently) and I am hoping she will not be one that negates the possiblity. I will speak with her about Tubal reversal.
Thanks to all with the great information.

Like many of you-I'm glad I found this. I have really bad pain on both sides where my overies are. It's like they are swollen. I had a tubal in 2005 during/after a c-section. I remember them saying while they were doing it how swollen the tubes were. I had quite a bit of pain after. I've had so much loss of energy since then. I thought it was because I now have 2 children, but sounds like it is what many women have after a tubal. Some periods are really bad and I have to take something. I used to be able to tough it out. AND WEIGHT GAIN-A FLABBY BELLY, I look pregnant from the side, I really don't eat enough for this and the flab is low now too, right over my legs on my belly, it's so nasty-what you'd see on a really obese person. If you look at me straight on, I don't look big. I've never been a big person. Right now I have the pain by my overies and it feels like a ball on each side and hurts more standing. As long as I'm hunched over I'm okay. I guess I'll look into the hormone replacement and I will never recommend a tubal to anyone after reading of the commen experiences. It cannot be a coincidence! Since then I also rarely sleep through the night.

I am happy to know I am not alone or crazy. However now that I know what's going on how do I fix it? I don't want a hysterectomy and am considering a reversal. Does anyone have any info on that or the success of it?

I had a tubal ligation approximately 10 years ago at the age of 39. I never had children. I never used birth control pills.
I only recently found out about Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome after I was diagnosed with Post Ablation Tubal Ligation Syndrome which resulted in a Total hysterectomy ( I'm 5 weeks post op)
The PATSS caused debilitating right sided fallopian tube pain which I found out was caused by endometrial lining regenerating after the endometrial ablation. The ablation causes scarring to the uterus which traps any bleeding from flowing out through the cervix. The blood needs to go somewhere so it flowed into my stumped fallopian tube, causing it to enlarge and engorge with blood. This progressed for approx 6-8 months before I was diagnosed. Now, looking back, I realize how many years I suffered with post ligation symptoms. Funny how my Dr never suggested these could be related to the tubal!
After my hysterectomy The NEW Dr. found stage IV endometriosis and badly adhered appendix, ovaries, bowel and bladder. When I had the tubal the OLD Dr said I had "NO" signs of endometriosis. Funny how all of these complications arose AFTER the tubal.
I was hospitalized three times for severe depression and anxiety. I had bad cramps and started having heavy bleeding (with clots) which my OLD Dr then suggested an endometrial ablation. It was all downhill after this.
I know Dr don't want to admit these problems are real. So many women having symptoms post tubal need to be listened to. There needs to be more research done to study these complications.

thank you very much for your stories.  i had my tubal done in 2009.  pathetically, i'm a rn & obviously didn't do a good job researching possible post TL issues.  let me just list my symptoms:  horrible cramping, heavier bleeding/clotting, horrendous bloating, lower abd pain during ovulation, loss of sex drive, perineal perspiration, extreme pms moodiness, exhaustion, headaches.......i will definitely be talking to my new ob gyn about this matter.  please keep me updated on your issues.  thanks!!

i have been going thru the same problems, nothing different from what u all have posted. the list may as well go on and on, i am  hoping that my dr will consider me for a medically neccessary tubal reversal. and hopefully my insurance will pay for it. well at least they said they will if its medically neccessary. i want my life and hormones back. now i know that a tubal reversal may not neccessarily fix everything in my research of tr,but id rather have it done and take my chances. thx for letting me know im not in this bymyself. hope u all get the results and answers you all are seeking

I can't believe it! A lot of these stories sound just like mine. I had a tubal cauterization done in 2003 & over the years my pain has gotten worse. It is extremely painful during my menstrual cycle. I also experience sharp "electrical shock feeling" pains during ovulation & during my menstrual cycle. I'm going to be speaking to my new OB/GYN about this.

I had a tubal done when I was 23, almost 3 years ago. It was when my daughter was 3 months old. I continued to breastfeed her till she was 22 months old, 13 months ago. The pain after the surgery was the worse pain I had ever been through. It was much worse than giving birth to my daughter, at home with no drugs. I don't think I had my first period till she was about 15 months old but between the surgery and stopping nursing her I had a sharp pain on my right side, where my ovary, whenever I exercised or exerted myself. When I stopped nursing her my periods got really heavy. About 2-3 months later they were so bad I would have to stay in bed the whole first day. No medication worked to take the pain away. By May, 6 months after stopping nursing and 2 years after the surgery, I had terrible pain on the right side and went to the dr. This pain is unprovoked but it feels like knives then swelling that lasts for an hour to six hours after I lay down. The dr didnt seem to care to find out what was wrong with me and sent me home. Its almost 7 months after the first REALLY REALLY bad pain I had and its just getting worse. Its more frequent. My periods are HORRIBLE. Since May they have been EXACTLY 23 days apart and either exactly 5 days or 7 days long. The last couple months Ive had really bad hormonal problems for a few days before to a week after my period. The last two months I've had breast tenderness for 3 days prior to starting. My abdominal pain is also on the left side now. I look bloated, seems to me it could be swelling as my whole abdomen is tender. The list of problems goes on and on. I dont have insurance and when I went to the dr in May they charged me twice what they said they were going to which ended up being over $350 for a 30 min visit and the only thing she did was a urine sample! Im leery of going to another dr because I dont know if they will be able to or even want to find out whats wrong and/or how to treat it. I'm not even 25 and already I'm in so much pain all the time. It's really hindering my life!  DONT GET YOUR TUBES TIED!!!!!!!!!

I had my tubal ligation done in Oct. 2006... The worse decision I have ever made. Over the last 6 years I have dealt with "flooding" periods that last anywhere from 3-7 days and to top it off this happens 2-3 times a month and prior they were normal. in the last year I get cramps that literally double me over. I was diagnosed with anxiety a few months ago. My moods are horrible and i get severe headaches amongst so many other things. The doctors have told me that it is due to stress... I was at a loss until someone mentioned to me that I should probably be tested for PTLS. After doing some research I discovered that I have 99% of the symptoms. I am going to mention it to my doctor at my next appointment and see what she may suggest. I am hoping and praying that I can get this figured out, I want the old me back...

I had my tubal ligation done about 20 years ago when I was 27.  I have not experienced any pain or unusual symptoms at all.  I guess I am just very fortunate.
