Hi. My mother had a hysterectomy done. Vaginal I think. She came back from the hospital 2 days ago (she was hospitalized for a day). How long will it take for her to recover after the surgery? What can I do to help her?

Hi. I am 42 years old and I had to undergo hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. I stayed in the hospital for four days because of some minor complications. Anyway, I have also had vaginal hysterectomy done and it takes less time to recover, then after abdominal hyst. In the case of vaginal hyst, recovery time will take a week or two. In the case of abdominal hyst, recovery time is longer and these women need two months to recover. Your Mom will probably feel depressed, just be there for her.

Do not let her lift for 6-8 weeks, helping her vacumn and clean so she will not attempt to,I had one in 2001 and tell her she will love the fact her monthly is gone with her cramps and enjoy wearing her white pants.

I just had an abdominal hysterectomy two weeks ago. I stayed in the hospital for three days. Some days I feel great and then there are days I forget I just had major surgery and feels like my insides is being torn out. Its getting better everyday, I expect to be out of work for another four weeks. I'll get better in time with rest and no stress.
