Yes…me as well. Wake up and spit some rust colored spit. Scared me. I also just quit smoking. I was a light smoker though. Like under 5 a day and I smoke organic tobacco but yeah still need to quit. At first when I quit for 5 days I would spit brown spit in mornings and I’ve never coughed but then I started back only smoking 3 a day and then after awhile it was rusty colored spit only in the mornings. I think I do actually grind my teeth in my sleep so that doesn’t help and I have a wisdom tooth that’s so wiggly but I am not going to dentist unless I absolutely had too because I know from drinking sodas for so long it really messed up my back teeth on one side and receding gums which I have been working on and I no longer drink soda. Or no longer drink Dr Pepper. I was addicted. Anyways. I’m middle aged so yeah. Just wanted to chime in here. I was surprised to see so many people with the same kinda spit in the morning.

Hi, Tonie.

Rust colored spit could be indicative of several medical conditions, including:

- Blood in the saliva: Blood in the saliva can give it a rusty or brown color. This can be caused by various factors such as gum disease, mouth sores, infections, or bleeding in the respiratory or digestive tracts.

- Chronic bronchitis: Chronic bronchitis is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that causes inflammation and irritation in the bronchial tubes. One of the symptoms is coughing up phlegm that can be rusty or brown in color.

- Pneumonia: Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs, causing coughing with rusty-colored phlegm, fever, and difficulty breathing.

It is important to seek medical attention if you are experiencing rust-colored spit, especially if it is persistent or accompanied by other symptoms.
