Day 3 since surgery. Seen the surgeon today. foot looks good. Changed the bandage. Told me to keep the surgical shoe on when i walk. Start to exercise the toe. Bend it up and down. Down is much easier than up. Stitches come out on the 13th. Still have foot wrapped in gauze and a gauze pad over incision. Not having any pain really. Just if it starts to hurt i elevate my foot. Pain goes away. She also told me to ice the ankle and apply heat to the calf 3 times a day.

Going through the same issue with my big toe... I only have one, but it hurts and it is right where the top ilet closest to the tip of the toes..... It gets rubbed and irritated, and it also is painful. I am going for surgery in January..... He said the recovery time will be only a few days and I can return to work with a special shoe..

So, you would recommend this? I am seeing a lot of negative posts and it is scaring me a little, but maybe it depends on how the surgery is done. Please let me know how you are doing and how you made out with your second surgery. Was your recovery time fairly quick? I have the same issue with the bone spur right at the tip of my right toe, and it is painful.. I saw one Podiatrist last week that told me I would not be able to drive for about 4 - 6 weeks, .and gave me a bunch of negative info about the risks etc. He also did NOT look at my other foot, but took an X-Ray. Also the way he described the surgery seemed to be pretty invasive, going in from the side of my foot. I wondering if he really didn't want to be bothered doing it. I really didn't get a good feeling from him at all. but got a cortisone shot to lessen my pain.
I went to another local Podiatrist this past Wednesday, who is Board Certified and also practices in Westchester NY for a second opinion, My friend who is a nurse recommended him and he had done a bunionectomy on her. He looked at both of my feet just to compare them, and took an X- Ray.and he told me I would be able to be up and walking in a special shoe the next day..... and should be able to return to work within a few days. He also said he would give me a special permit to be able to park closer to places while I am healing. The way he described the surgery seemed to less invasive, going in right around where the spur is. He said maybe I would have 2 or 3 stitches.

Hi. Depends on how much pain you are really in. I myself at the 7 week point am glad I had it done. I was 4 weeks to get my shoe back on full time. I also had to go to a wider shoe. But all in all the surgery was very easy. I did not take 1 pain pill. Only ice and elevation. Do be careful of the incision though it takes a while to heal.
I walked from the day I had it done but only as I could tolerate. More each day. I did the second opinion as well. everybody reacts differently. I disagree with them telling you that it will be short of 4 to 6 weeks to recover. Thats just not true. You will have a healing process to go through just like I did. Surgery, brusing, swelling, recovered. All depends on your body. good luck. Anyother questions feel free to ask.

The longer you wait, the more damage the spur does to your joint. I just came from the surgeon. I should have gone long ago, and maybe I wouldn't be facing so much damage from the spur and as a result, toe joint replacement. Would you put off fixing a broken tire rim? You need to ride on that and you need to walk on your foot!

What you are describing sounds like Morton's Neuroma, easy fix with day surgery.

I am having a bone spur removed from my big right toe. I was told I would be off my feet for 2weeks and walking in a small black boot after that. After reading some of these responses I'm having second thoughts. My toe hurts to the point of not being able to wear a shoe and it burns. Am I going to have even more problems after the surgery?

Nice to hear something positive. I broke my right ankle in 2010 and now bone spur On left toe. I got to have at least one foot that doesn't hurt. Thank you and I feel better now. Does it have to be casted?
