Hi, my mother had a brainstem stroke. What will be her chances to recover from it? I always thought of her as of strong woman, that could take anything. But, now I believe she’s under depression.

Brainstem stroke syndromes mostly involves disruption in supply of oxygen rich blood to basal parts of brain. Approximately 25% of all strokes take place in brainstem. Infarction at this part may cause diverse disorders. Depending on how deep it has affected, which specific functions are lost or impaired. Consequence can be devastating, but it takes time and practice to relearn all things person used to do after stroke. It is great achievement to survive stroke and even heroic to recover after it. But, if you are not giving up easily you will succeed to regain part of your former skills.
