My husband had a stroke 2.5 years ago at first he was they mystery man because they couldn't figure out what was going on. Now they say he is the miracle man because he is alive. They said the strokes where from vacuities of the brain and there where blood clots as well but they do not know from where. The dizziness started about a year after the strokes and seems to be getting worse. The doctors do not know why. Anyone have any ideas? We have been to Mayo Clinic and Northwestern.

Good day.
Stroke recovery can be complex, and symptoms like dizziness that emerge or worsen over time can be particularly concerning and frustrating, especially when the exact cause is unclear. Here are some possible factors and considerations that might be relevant:
-
Post-Stroke Complications: Dizziness is a common symptom after a stroke, which can be due to a variety of factors including changes in blood flow to certain areas of the brain, damage to the balance centers in the brain, or as a side effect of medication.
-
Vasculitis: If the strokes were caused by vasculitis of the brain, this could potentially lead to ongoing issues. Vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels, can lead to changes in blood flow and potentially contribute to dizziness.
-
Blood Clots: If there were blood clots involved in his initial condition, this could indicate an underlying clotting disorder or other circulatory issues that might contribute to his symptoms.
-
Medication Side Effects: It’s also important to consider the side effects of any medications he might be on. Some medications used in stroke recovery or to prevent further strokes can have side effects like dizziness.
-
Rehabilitation and Therapy: Vestibular rehabilitation therapy might be beneficial if the dizziness is related to balance issues. This therapy is designed to help the brain "relearn" how to balance and process signals from the vestibular system.
-
Second Opinions and Specialist Consultations: Since you have already been to major medical centers like the Mayo Clinic and Northwestern, seeking out specialists who focus specifically on post-stroke recovery or neurovascular issues might provide new insights.
-
Continued Monitoring and Testing: Sometimes, the cause of post-stroke symptoms like dizziness becomes clearer over time with continuous monitoring and repeated testing.
Given the complexity of his condition, it's important to continue working closely with healthcare providers. They may suggest further diagnostic tests or referrals to specialists in neurology, hematology, or otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat), who might offer more targeted insights into his condition. It's also vital to keep all his medical providers informed about any new symptoms or changes in his condition.
