I donated blood last Thursday and after I had finished a few hours later I noticed that I had a bruise. Everyday the bruise got worst. Now my bruise looks red and purple. My brother said it might be internal bleeding? Should I go to the doctors?

Hi Jennifer,

It probably is "internal bleeding" but it is nothing to worry about.  When they drew blood they put a needle into the vein.  Usually the vein is elastic enough that this hole closes almost immediately.  But, if you move around OR the technician has trouble finding the vein there can be some minor trauma to the tissues under the skin.  Some blood will coagulate and create your bruise, a contusion.

It should go away in a few days and IS NOT a concern.
