On my last checkup, my doctor found some calcification in me breast. I was scared that it was breast cancer but she reassured me. They told me that there is no sign of breast cancer. I would like to know more about this calcification. Thanks

I understand that you are worried, but I am sure that you are ok if your doctor has told you so. Calcification shows up on a mammogram when calcium deposits have collected in the ducts of the breast and this is not dangerous in itself. However, particular patterns of calcification can show that a cancer may be growing there. Breast specialists are able to look at mammograms and pick out the patterns of calcification which can mean there is a breast cancer in that part of the breast. Fortunately, this is not a case with you. At least two separate pictures in mammogram screening are taken from different angles. If you continue to be worried, talk further to the specialist and breast cancer nurse at your breast screening centre and ask them everything you want to know. Your doctor or doctor who looked at your screening results and did the biopsy is the responsible one to talk to you and tell you whether there is a risk of a cancer not being spotted. You can also ask them to keep a close eye on the particular area in the future.
