I recently started taking gabapentin for anxiety. Two pills before bed, one in the morning, and one in the early afternoon.

On two seperate occasions since on the medication I had a couple beer and felt a little weird the next day. Almost hungover but I hadn't been particularly drunk the night before. Didn't think much of it.

Last weekend was the first time I got drunk on the medication. A few shots and a couple weak mixed drinks over two hours. Normally I would have been drunk but I became absolutely a mess. I very vaguely remember the night, but was blacked out. I apparently threw up all over my friends house and think I was mean to her. It was bad enough that as one of my best friends she called the next day to ask me to pick up my things and not visit again.

Two questions:

1. Could this be from the gabapentin? It's the only independant variable I can isolate.

2. How can I prevent this in the future?

The easiest answer to #2 is "quit drinking" but I'm 22 and really enjoy socially drinking with my friends. I don't drink often. Maybe a few beers once a week and get drunk once a month. If I were to skip taking my gabapentin for a day would have help? If I knew I was going to drink I could just not take the medicine ... ? As far as I understand it's not the type of medicine I would have withdrawls from or really builds up in your system, so maybe that would help? This event is really detering me from wanting to take mental health medication.
