I've been a daily pot smoker for over 11 years. Last year I decided to take an annual sober month. This is my second time doing so and I'm again amazed at how friggin tired I am. For those attributing this to diet, I'm a certified yoga teacher and all around nutrition buff. This is day 8 of no weed or alcohol and while I definitely don't drink often enough to have any withdrawal from the alcohol, I can't help feeling like this exhaustion is from the lack of weed. There are certain benefits I suppose - I remember to run the dishwasher and take out the trash before bed - but this process always reminds me that I really do use weed on some level to repress trauma and control my emotions. Maybe it's being so much more emotionally delicate that makes me tired- or maybe without the munchies I eat fewer snacks throughout the day so I'm getting less energy? Idk but I feel you

With all due respect, this is a dumb post reply. You’ve looked up something on the internet, found four symptoms (of hundreds), and then alluded, with no experience, that weed widthrawl is not problem. For anyone else reading this, there are many more than the 4 symptoms mentioned above. Extreme fatigue definitely being one of them. Your body is fighting hard to maintain the same processes it did with weed. When you’ve been smoking as long, your body starts to see THC/canniboids as something it needs to function. Your body will get used to doing these things without weed and tiredness should wear off as you get closer to being fully detoxed.

Could someone please tell me which "TOXINS" specifically they are talking about when it comes to cannabis after giving up? Really, a natural herb that is smoked contains toxins? Which toxins? "toxins being released after giving up cannabis" as far as i was aware THC and CBC are not toxins. Then theres the people who went from cannabis to highly toxix anti-depressants and SSRIS which are known to affect the brain to the point of brain damage due to affecting neural pathways. Please advise

Guest 2 is correct. The idea that we need to flush toxins out of our body is false. Toxins are not stored in our body. They are flushed out quickly through natural body processes. It is withdrawal symptoms you are experiencing. My husband and I experience fatigue every time we try to quit. I have heard some people feel the opposite and have a euphoric feeling but that has never been me. I am surprised I can't find a reputable source stating fatigue as a withdrawal symptom. Marijuana research is sadly so limited. I am on only Day 2 of quitting...again! wish me luck!

I'm 54 and gave smoked since HS. Not heavy duty all those years but chronicly the past 10 years. I'm on day 5 and I'm tired all the time and my breathing isn't great. I wake up tired which is freaking me out. A buddy of mine(51) just died from drinking a fifth a day for 25 years and I'm done with all of it. The worst part is realizing that ive wasted a lot of my life getting high

I’m sorry about the loss of your friend.
The best part is that you’re realizing things about your life. 54 is young. Don’t touch that stuff anymore. The tiredness is normal and might last for weeks or months depending on what your physical and mental health habits are. Drink lots of water, exercise, start hobbies or activities you’ve only dreamed of doing, talk to good friends, maybe go to therapy and meditate. It’s all things that have helped me and turned my life around. Learn from the past, live a new life now. Chin up!

O always heard of withdrawals and I don’t want to say that’s why I never quit before but the way I can’t sleep at all it sucks. I will give it more time since I was a heavy smoker and hope for the best. I feel more calm during the day however Im not getting any sleep makes me wonder if I can be productive at all during the day. I don’t want to smoke anymore but I remember how great a feel to sleep everyday when I did smoke. I want to thank you for this blog and I will continue to put my money to better use and it’s only been 1 week and I feel of the wagon only once but being an athletic I want to stay away from that and game a better life. Thanks again and congrats to everyone that can do without.

Hello all, I think I could add some useful information on here from my experience and other info gathered. First, let me start by saying I am currently going through MJ withdrawal and I am tired, which led me here. I am extremely fit and healthy, eat very well, and I have slowly been working on better sleep hygiene. On top of this I take medication for ADHD, which can obviously override a lot of fatigue and tiredness when in full effect. What I wanted to add on here is just because you sleep 7+ hours doesn’t necessarily mean it is quality sleep. From my observations, REM is hard to come by with weed in your system and as you withdrawal and REM improves sometimes DEEP sleep is effected. I find the biggest correlation with day time tiredness are the lack of sleep during these cycles. What has worked for me is consistent sleep hygiene, being healthy, trying not to nap during the day and most of all patience. You will get relief soon, just hang in there. I find when I am tired during the day, I can wear it as a badge of honor and tell myself, “You’ve made it this far, wait a little longer and you will be feeling great”. Good luck everyone

You are 100% correct. These are full blown withdrawal symptoms, not detox. I have quit several times in the last 2 months. I have smoked continuously for over 10 years. I have hot and cold flashes like menopause (too young to be it), anxiety, mood swings, a feeling of constant frustration, flashes of anger, headaches, eye aches, nausea, chills, and insomnia. Like clockwork my husband and I would fight on the day I started the hot and cold flashes, which was about the 2nd to 3rd day, and we don't even argue. So be aware you can destroy your life with your moods. These symptoms seem to stop for me around the 4th or 5th day sometimes 6th. I tested if I could go back to smoking just on weekends after my symptoms went away completely and I felt in control of myself again. NOPE!! After smoking about 2 grams over the weekend, I am right back where I started before I quit (albeit not as intense, but still). Oh the humanity!! I'm hoping I can have a little now and again eventually, but for now I gotta get the monkey off my back.
BTW here in WA I have done the research and you spend as much for smoke retail as you would buying real gold!! How is that for some perspective. I also noticed that all my money went for rent, bills, weed, & food in that order. I spent half my money on it man, no joke for years. So stupid :( I have seen the new total THCA percentages in the 20s & 30s. That's gotta be addicting to the brain. The old weed never went up into the 20s, and that stuff you could smoke without withdrawal symptoms and have the same effect. Just sayin. Food for thought. Be kind, understanding, and vigilant with yourself. Try to remain calm (breathe) and keep telling yourself, "This too shall pass". Take it 1 hour at a time when it's rough and 1 day at a time when it's better :) Good luck

Marijuana consumption increases deep sleep while reducing REM sleep. When you quit you might notice sleeplessness at first but later it is more likely you will have a lot of vivid dreams. The tiredness is most likely caused by the fact that you are experiencing a temporary reduction is deep sleep. This kind of tiredness should be mostly physical. You might notice like I did when I quit that you have more mental energy but at the same time feel like laying down a lot when you quit. This is actually a good sign it means your passed the initial withdrawal phase and are recovering. I smoked from the age of 16-21 and quit about 6 months ago it took about a month for that tiredness to go away for me. good luck to you all, there is a logical explanation you just have to look at external sources instead of just typing in “weed withdrawal symptoms.” Study sleep effects and marijuana’s effect on sleep waves, Matthew walker went on Joe Rohan and briefly discussed this it’s worth watching for a simple run through. He pointed me in the direction of the studies that detailed marijuana’s effect on sleep phases and that’s how I drew this conclusion, in addition to experiencing it myself. Also irritability is anothe common side effect of quitting that also took about a month or two to leave me.

Read this page 7 days ago. The best page I could read for someone stopping. It’s day 14 for me. I need to take at least one nap a day to get through the day. Last week I needed 2 naps a day. It’s getting better but im expecting at least another 2 weeks of this. Possibly more. Before this, the longest i stopped was 3 months and it was a problem then too. I feel bad for the guys who still feel this way after more than 1 or 2 months, but i do believe it can take up to a year. Or however long it takes for the last bit of thc to get out of your body.

Stay strong. Weed can be really difficult to kick. A lot harder than some people think. Usually those people are in denial. Hang in there! Life slowly gets better when you are clean!
