can you get pregnant the day after your period?

Generally ovulation usually occurs at least 10 days after your period, and a sperm can live up to 7 days.

It seems like you would be quite fine if it's the day right after.... is your period late or have you taken a pregnancy test?

That generalisation is rather misleading! Ovulation occurrence is not directly linked to the previous period, but rather the period is linked to the previous ovulation. If an egg released at ovulation does not implant, then a period occurs about a fortnight later (after the luteal phase). So with a typical cycle of 28 days, ovulation would typically take place on cycle day 15. That would be 10 days after the period if it lasted 5 days. However, if the cycle is only 21 days, then ovulation would be expected to occur on cycle day 8. It is then likely that the day after a period ends is likely to be a fertile day. So sex on that day could lead to pregnancy.
