A urinary tract infection is NOT an s.t.i
It is an infection in the urinary tract (a non sexual part of your body) caused by bacteria. Any one of any age including infants can contact a uti infection although it is more common in women then in men.
You should still have a normal period as the urinary system will not effect your womb (unless infection is left untreated where it can worsen affecting your whole body as you'll understandably become weaker).
Using a tampon or having sexual intercourse is not advisable as placing a foreign body into your vagina while there is an infection near that region can cause irritation and also introduce more bacteria into your system
