Hi. I have a urinary tract infection, for the first time in my whole life. It was really painful to pee, but the treatment is very effective (I am taking Amoxil). I would like to know where does urinary tract infection occur?

Hi. Kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra are the elements of your urinary system. Kidneys are the most important element – they remove excess liquid from the blood in the form of urine, through ureters, to the bladder. Urine is, then, emptied through the urethra. When bacteria cling to the opening of the urethra and begin to multiply, you got yourself an infection. Bacteria first travel to the urethra and this condition is called urethritis. If bacteria go to the bladder, you have a bladder infection. If bacteria infect the kidneys, you get pyelonephritis.
